CHAPTER 24
I'm working on various items!! Stay tuned.

When I finished Chapter 9 (seems like an awfully long time ago!) I started to create some gear fairings.  The shaped foam sat on my bench for the last year and a half and now that the fuselage is readly to be turned right side up (i.e. it's still upside down) I decided I better get those gear fairings on - it doesn't get any easier.

However, I reconsidered my original design - and so I discarded the little pieces of foam I has save and started over.  The finished product is pictured on the left here.

Here is the gear fairing installed on the left gear leg (at least I think it's the left - I get so confused when the fuselage is upside-down right is left and left is right??!!)

The pictures below are of the upper strake fairings. They are fairly easy to make. Just build a dam an pour in "pour-foam" and after cure cut it down and sand to shape. One bit of advice... if I were to do this again I would "hard-shell" the pour foam before glassing (i.e. micro and let the micro cure and then sand the micro smooth). The pour foam has large cells that tend to let the micro ooze in and settle - sucking in air to the layup and leaving a rough surface.
