"You can hide your work from the inspector, but you can't hide it from Mother Nature."
Step 1: Inspections and Repairs
The inspection criteria and the information on how to repair those items that don't pass inspection are spelled out in two places in the plans -- Chapter 3 and Chapter 25. It's worth going back and reviewing Chapter 3 again. You'll be amazed at what you missed the first time through! Chapter 25 expands upon the inspection criteria and provides a little more insight as to what to look for.
Inspections:
(a) No bumps, joggles, or dips greater than 1/16th inch allowed on the critical areas shown on Chapter 3, Page 10.
(b) No more than 10% dry areas within any 6x6-inch square.
(c) No air bubbles or delaminations larger than 2 inches in diameter.
(d) Occasional sanding through the weave in the first skin ply is okay as long as the total sand-throughs do not total more than 5% of the surface area. Repairs are needed otherwise.
(e) No chord-wise wrinkles or bumps over 1/16th inch, or any dips greater than 1/16th inch over 20% of the length in the canard. wings, and winglets. This is particularly true of the lifting sides since they are in compression. Span-wise wrinkles along the fore and aft edges of spar caps are normal and acceptable.
(f) No wrinkled or crooked unidirectional fibers. They should be straight. Although no "criteria" is given in the plans, the generally accepted criteria is each fiber is straight to within 1/16th inch over its length.
