Chapter 11 – Elevators

First experence with hotwire cutting here. I think it was John Slade who recommended doing these cuts first as likely mistakes wonÕt cost as much foam. First cut, the temperature was too hot and thin parts of elevator core were malformed. The blue Styrofoam blocks from AC Spruce are larger than plans, and was able to get two cores successfully from a single slab (instead of 1.9Ó x 3.4Ó, made it 2.5Ó x 4Ó). See picture.

Elevator torque tube. Took some filing of the Brock NC2 parts to fit, and they are still 1/64Ó or so protruding, even though they are fully seated in the tube. Will read up to see if this might be a problem. |

All metal came from Brock. We alodined them all to get in the habit. |
Attaching the offset through the dug-out in foam. Another lesson I learned the hard way was I drilled through torque tube and CZNC-12A offset, then bolted in place without disassembling and clearing out the debris. The hinge pins would not slide easily (still donÕt slide very easily), and I later realized how much debris settled in the hinge pin holes that needed to be cleared out.. |

Took some work to get the depth and clearance for NC3s. Also had to prop up NC3 with shim to hold 1/8 above (below) canard surface. Mine are 1/8Ó +/- 1/16Ó |
