Hangar Flying / Brake Job
« on: February 08, 2008, 09:03:04 PM »
For a Longez, I would put my back between the strake and wing junction and pick up the wing with my legs........

I gotta see a picture of this for a tire change!

I've changed several tires on my Long EZ and that is the craziest idea I've ever heard.  There are a couple excellent little jacks made for just this purpose and they work very well. Safe and simple, what more can you want?  You're going to do this more often than you think.  Why try the caveman approach?    :?:

Hangar Flying / Loehle Aero Coatings

Has anyone used these products?  They seem to be popular among the non-composite folks but they say it also works well on our planes.  I don't find any mention in the archives......

Hangar Flying / Bored Too

Joe,
Our closest event in California seems to be a show at Mather Air Base in March.  I too have been looking for warm and/or aviation event destinations but they don't plan much fly-in-wise that I've found in the cold, and nothing is coming up besides Florida.....
We have been nurturing a NorCal Canard group that has had some success this fall:

We have had several fly outs of two or more and are hoping to improve that this spring.  We made Shelter Cove one day for a great lunch.  That is one of our most spectacular airports where you can fly in and eat/stay/golf on the coast.  I've forgotten your home base but from Idaho Falls its a 3.5 hour flight and would be a great weekend for you and your lovely GIB.
We have been pretty quiet over the holidays but should be picking up soon.  We'd also be very interested in semi-day trip/maybe weekend jaunts up your way if you can "show us the way!"

For Sale/Wanted / Prop Extension
« on: December 23, 2007, 10:14:13 AM »
Is anyone interested in a 6" extension for an O-320?  It has a 6" prop flange and I'd like to go to the 7" but not without some "trade-in" value for the old one......
Merry Christmas to all!

Hangar Flying / Cold Feet
« on: December 20, 2007, 01:12:06 AM »
I was surprised at how much of the cold air was coming from everywhere else BUT the canard tubes.  A very knowledgeable canard man helped me pack and silicone in stiff foam shapes that filled every other hole and slot in my nose area this fall.  The difference was amazing.  No more cold blast on the feet.  Now just a very light breeze, probably from the canard tubes.

If you have the big blast, there may be bigger areas to fill. If just the light breeze, I'll also be happy to hear of a good solution to stop that.  In the meantime, Gerber clothing works well, as does battery powered socks and good insulated boots......

Klaus told me they would be a benefit on my Long EZ when I asked him about them at a fly-in.

The fellow that the last poster referred you to is overseas and won't be back for some time.  Contact him anyway, he gets e-mail.  A friend of mine bought his last wings before he deployed but may haave to part out the project.  Let me know if you get interested.

Hangar Flying / NACA vs. P-51 Scoop
« on: August 01, 2007, 12:24:01 PM »
The last couple CSA newsletters detailed one fellow that has found much better results with a modified scoop instead of the NACA and another that is trying it.  This may change your mind about the NACA.
