Exploring my options for a helmet. I have an older Navy style (mid 1990's) that I may covert over to civilian style coms. I would rather just get a newer helmet that is already set up with ANR.

Anybody have one they would like to part with?

My military flying dictated that I wear a helmut and about 30 to 40 lbs of life saving gear.  While the helmut would give you some protection during and after explosively leaving the cockpit, it's main purpose (in my mind) was to give me a good anchoring position for my O2 mask which was much needed.  And that helmut, O2, comm, visor combination had to stay put on your head during 6+Gs of flight.

Feel the freedom of not flying a military plane and not having to wear an O2 mask.  For ultimate freedom, get the anr headset that goes in your ears (like ear-buds).

I got a set of "Halo" tubephones at the EAA show last year.  You don't even know you're wearing them.  They weigh nuthin ! !  Cost about $350.00 or so.  They can be stereo or mono.  Also have volume control. They guy I bought them from is the the owner / developer. He doesn't have a website, but his email is :   pmccand@orblink.com   He is an ear Doctor.  Audiologist ?

G,day Allen,

Can't sell you one but I have just retired my old SPH 5 after 17 years and about 7500 hours of use.

It was a very comfortable helmet but hotter than hell in summer. After 17 years of use it was still in good condition although the earphones were rusting out due to probably several gallons of sweat passing through them over the years.

I now have a brand spanking new company issued Gallett LO50 with ANR probably worth about 1700 USD. Very light, small profile but not as comfortable as the SPH 5, appears the french must have smaller frontal craniums than us Aussies. The ANR is good with low freq. but useless with high freq.

Worth a look at if your still looking.
