Lycoming O-235 carburettor orientation
« on: June 09, 2014, 09:55:05 AM »
Has anyone any advice or comments on whether I can (or cannot) rotate the carb on my O-235 ,through 90° about a vertical axis.
Basically I want to make for a lot easier connections of the mixture and throttle operating cables.
There may be some issues with mixture distribution to the cylinders or maybe icing aspects.
If anyone out there has any technical advice or suggestions I would be very welcome to have it.

Paul,

I do not know (no firsthand experience) whether or not you can rotate the carburetor as you described but there is an additional advantage to doing it.

The Van's Aircraft filtered airbox (FAB-320-1) required modifications when I installed one on my O235.  Installation would have been considerably easier without having to fabricate a new mounting plate and even modify the filter element to fit.

OK Joe!
Thanks for the input so rapidly.  I haven't bothered too much about the filter box yet, just concentrating on the control cables.
