Chapter 9: Heat Shields

Heat shields protect the gear leg from being melted by the radiant heat from the brake rotor. I made mine from 0.045" aluminum sheet bolted between the gear leg and axle. I started with the pattern created by Bernie Siu. I modified mine to be a little wider so that they also shield the brake lines as they enter the brake calipers. Later, I will wrap the gear leg and brake lines that are inside the wheelpant with fiberfrax and aluminum tape as an extra measure.
