Chapter 8 – Head Rests

By this time, itÕs clear this isnÕt a trial project anymore. IÕd been using my homebuilt epoxy scale, and consistently seem to be running out of hardener before resin. Recalibrated, went along a bit further, and was convinced itÕs time for the ratio pump. Go/no-go? ItÕs a go.
Seems like lots of variations on headrests out there. IÕm sticking with plans, not having gotten out much to talk with other builders about pros-and cons-. Might change laterÉ
Headrests, untrimmed and unshaped. |
Shaped with a simple radius tool (60-grid spray-adhesived into a small urethane template. |
Shoulder support top with plywood inserts. |
Top and face mated, curing |
Inside of shoulder support glassed. |
I think this is a black widow climbing around the fuselage, in my router case. DidnÕt read about this hazard in the plans (oh, yeah, the part about keeping the workplace cleanÉ.got it!) |
Rear heat duct and seat belt hard points glassed in place. |
Transition tube for rear heat duct, per plans. |
Seat belt brackets – close-up. IÕve been hacking these metal parts with a hacksaw and grinder – not very clean but sufficient. Might consider a metal band-saw for better results. |
Shoulder harness done per plans. One thing missing is the bid reinforcement over this area – saw that instruction after-the-fact under the figure in the plans (tip-off from reading Bernard SiuÕs excellent website!). |
