What to Do when a fellow Flyer Deceives you on Barnstormers

Hello Fellow Flyers,

Here is my Story:

I've been looking for a Navaid servo, and what pops up on Barnstormers?
A new never installed Navaid Servo for $500.00. So like a good shopper, quickly offer $400.00 for it, thinking a can get a reasonable deal. OK, well the seller, UN-Named for now, emails me back and says, $430.00 which will cover the shipping and paypal fees. Off it goes immediately!!
Here is the problem, received the package today, and It doesn't look like any Navaid servo I have seen in the last 15 years. I call Navaid and they dont think it is theirs. Have been manufacturing the same servo for 16++ years.  
Mailed the seller, and rec a quick reply that is was in the box with the head when he got his EZ............... I don;t know bout you guys, bit I sure do know what parts I have, and what era it came from.
Now I've asked just to reverse the transaction and, NO Ansers from the seller.

What Do I Do?

Suggestions, ideas, anyone what to help??

  im sure all of us has gotten decieved or felt  "ripped" of at least once..if you get your money back...good for you...if NOT..Buyer beware, as we all say.  YOU CAN NEVER TELL. :?

Geez! What are you waiting for?  If it was a pilot, look him up in the aviation database---see what his address is too.

I am going to give it a very short period of time for a positive resolution, or not. Will keep ya posted.

Don't be too gentle!  If he was up-front, he would have let you send it back for a refund.  Post his name and the story on Barnstormers and every other board you know of.  Don't let the infection fester!

You know, the interesting thing is hiflyer68 posted to this forum on the same day (within hours) as he allegedly received the servo.  Please tell me, how does that work out to the Seller not responding to his request in a timely manner or being intentionally deceptive? I am the Seller of the item in question and I have NEVER intentionally deceived anyone! Before I even arrived home from work after the initial e-mail and response he had already filed complaints with paypal and posted here.

As I told this guy, I bought a Long which was a project flyer.  It was flooded out in Corona, CA  this year so is in rebuild. The plane came with (as I was told) a new NavAid auto pilot in the box, of which I still have the original Seller's advertisement.  I have never purchased one so had no reason to believe what I had was not as advertised when I bought the plane.  The head unit looked to be as new and one of the local guys bought it from me to replace one that did not work.  By the way, I just found out the servo is in fact a very early Navaid.

Anyway, when I received the initial e-mail regarding the problem I answered right back before leaving for work.  I returned a few hours later to find 2 more accusatory e-mails stating I lied, blah blah blah. I was never given the reasonable opportunity (read even 24 hours) before this guy starts posting all over the place, including filing an immediate complaint with paypal.  I take offense at the manner in which this guy has conducted himself.  I have bought and sold numerous items over the net and on various websites without issue.  Maybe I should do exactly as he says and screw him out of his money given the fact he has already sullied my reputation in this community.  Even though names were not posted, it is pretty easy to figure out who is who.

You should do the right thing no matter how the buyer acts.  If you don't then essentially everything he said actually comes true.

I just really have a problem with my character and integrity being publicly attacked without an opportunity to address the issue at hand.  

The timeframe of events are as follows;

12/6 - First e-mail regarding the problem at 10:52am, which is 1:52 his time.  I respond at 10:57 then leave for work.

He e-mails back at 11:20am, and 3:40pm local. He is 3 hours ahead.  In the mean time, he already has posted here and files a complaint with paypal. A little over 4 hours!

I e-mail back at 7:02 pm and he replies at 8:00 pm local. Basically I wanted to find out more about this servo for myself.

12/7 - I am gone early am for work and return at 10pm. He had emailed at 2:34pm and posted here again on the local board.

I e-mail at 10:31pm to send the servo back since I didn't have a chance to really look into it further and again at 8:35 am on the 8th with the return address.

I didn't find out about the posts here until last night. Does it seem to you like I was unresponsive?  Within 1 day I had told him to send it back.  He has already damaged my reputation so I might as well take him up on it and tell him to piss off...

I believe that if you do the right thing that your reputation is not damaged.  I believe that the best thing to do to preserve a reputation in a situation like this is to immediately do the return and to spell out the facts---and let other people judge from there whose reputation was really hurt.  I believe that being argumentative about it---and threatening not to do the return just redamages your reputation.  I would take the high road and let people judge for themselves.

Somewhat in defense of highflier68, he mentions his short turn arounds in his email.  He was also not willing to "out" you----but was looking for advice as what to do if it could not be worked out.  Some people get kind of freaked out when they buy things on the internet.  There are a couple of stories (I think on AVWEB----within the last couple of days) which talk about a couple of different guys who have defrauded lots of pilots/companies selling....not the right parts

And---by the way---I do have a propeller for a Longez/Varieze for sale---more or less a climb prop (when I get home I can check the pitch/diameter).  Price is negotiable----bet I'll pretty much sell it at a steal of a price----but don't really want to ship it to anyone.  You can try it, fly it, buy it if you like it.  But I really don't want to do the return thing over the mail.  Just anticipating that it may not be the right pitch/diamter that you would like and I could be mailing this thing back and forth forever.  Sure don't mind people trying it out though.  If there is someone in the DC area that wants to try it, give me a shout.  Oh---it is a Ted Hendrickson

September 2003 (yes, 2003). I ship a pusher prop, SAE-1 to Las Vegas, to a fellow Mr. D.C, his email was spy29@something.com. Deal was if you want to keep it, send me $ 300, otherwise send it back. After he receives the prop he says it does not fit his vari-eze, but "his friend" will buy it for $ 250. I say ok, and.....I am still waiting for the money!
