Hangar Flying / ez.org site status
« on: September 17, 2010, 10:48:44 AM »
We have been experiencing problems with the server that powers the ez.org site the past
two or three weeks. There may have been times where you were not able to get to the site.

I think we have it stable for now. Our plans are to replace the server to increase the capacity
as soon as time permits. The server is located in a 68,000 sq ft data center near downtown Dallas and
its not a simple matter to make the transition to a new server. I hope we are OK for a while but please bear with
us if you have problems.

I have been working on a new EFIS/Engine management system and the project
is near the point were I will need to bring additional users into the test process. This has been
a long-time back burner project that really heated up the past 6 months. My goal is to
make it available later this year for less than $1500. The features will compare well to
available units from Dynon/MGL/Aspen/etc.

I will be needing Long-EZ, Varieze, Cozy or RV'ers that would like to serve as beta testers for
pre-production units at a substantial cost savings. Obviously flying aircraft are primarily needed
but if you're at the stage of installing your panel and would like to help debug the install
documentation that might help as well. I'd like to have a few people lined-up when I feel
comfortable enough to let the pre-production units out the door. I anticipate the time frame to
be around the first of June.

If you have any cools ideas or features you would like to see implemented please feel free to post
them here or email me. Questions are also welcome.

The information and documentation is sparse at this point but I've put together
a small page or information with a few pictures. The bulk of the information is taken from
the CSA article Terry published in the April 2010 edition.

Please see http://www.ez.org/efis.html for more information.

Please email me if you are interested in the beta program.

Hangar Flying / Pilots and Paws 5000 - Sept 12-20th
« on: August 26, 2009, 11:10:59 AM »
I was asked to post information about the Pilots and Paws 5000 that is happening September
12 - 20th.

It's goal is to save 5000 rescue shelter dogs by moving them from high-kill shelters to low-kill
shelters. You can read more at http://www.pilotsnpaws.org/. Pilots from all over the country will
be donating their time and money to make it happen. AOPA has been assisting in the effort in getting the word out.

This is not canard related but seems to be a worthy organization and cause and a good excuse to go flying.

Hangar Flying / FAQ about the new look and features on ez.org
« on: June 12, 2009, 07:25:47 AM »
The new software is up and running. I'm going to use this thread to answer
questions that anyone has.

Currently the member section contains the static text from the old member list. An
email will be going out to everyone on that list with a temporary password asking them
to change their information. If you get the email just use your email address that was
on the old member list and the temporary password to login and change the info. If you do
not get the email, let me know.

Here are a few tips about how the site urls work:

Link to a fullsize image:

http://www.ez.org/image/FILENAME.org

Link to the same image but resized to large:
http://www.ez.org/image/l_FILENAME.org

Link to the same image but resized to medium:
http://www.ez.org/image/m_FILENAME.org

Link to the same image but resized to small:
http://www.ez.org/image/s_FILENAME.org

Link to the same image but resized to thumbnail:
http://www.ez.org/image/q_FILENAME.org

Link to the photo page for an image (allows comments for that image)
http://www.ez.org/photo/100/l_FILENAME.org

Note: you cannot link to CSA pictures since a password is required.

Link to a member page:
http://www.ez.org/profile/USERNAME

See all photo's for one member:

Any user can post pictures and news in the news section and simple HTML is supported
for news items. All submissions are moderated to prevent inappropriate content. The
download, links and article sections will switch over at some point to allow the same type of
posting.

Please let me know if you have any problems or questions or requests for the new site.

Thanks and have fun!

We will be installing new software on the ez.org site tomorrow and the site will be down
for a short period of time starting around 9:00ct.

There will be a different look and a lot more functionality when the upgrade is complete.

Hangar Flying / New forum software
« on: June 10, 2008, 01:38:48 PM »
I've loaded new forum software to add some functionality to
the site and hopefully to cut down on the spam. I've used this
software at other sites and prefer it over the old phpBB forum
software.

All the old users and posts should have converted. The attachments are showing twice on
old posts for some reason. And I'm looking into that.

Please let me know of any problems.

Hangar Flying / New section for classifieds, with pictures!
« on: April 12, 2007, 03:15:21 PM »
We have added a new section for items for sale and wanted. I have also updated the forum software to allow pictures to be uploaded.

With all the spam/porn I hope we can leave this option available.

Have fun!

Hangar Flying / NOTE: Issue with spam users, some may have been deleted
« on: February 07, 2007, 05:03:49 PM »
In the process of setting up the new forum software we culled
every user(over 3000)  that appeared to have a website link
to spam.

Most of spam users were setup in the past year. If you have
setup an account in the past year your account may have
been removed.

We also purged nearly 3000 spam messages that were posted
since the site was taken offline.

Hangar Flying / New moderators
« on: September 08, 2006, 06:47:13 AM »
Many thanks to several members who have stepped forward
to serve as moderators. Maybe we can keep the stuff weeded out.

The moderators will only delete spam, there is not any other
type of "moderation" going on. I think that is how everyone wants it.

The new moderators are mwilli7119 (Varieze), eric r  (Varieze), hmanvel (defiant) and
waiter(longez) who have all contributed much to the forums and this site.

That adds to noel and jdubner and myself. Lets limit the moderators to these
six for a while and see how things work.

Thanks guys!

Hangar Flying / forum problems
« on: December 23, 2005, 01:56:30 PM »
Not sure what is going on but we seem to lose posts sometimes.

I received an email from someone that saw a question about a prop for a
rotary yesterday. The topic is no longer there... not sure where it went but
it was not removed for any reason.

The ONLY posts we remove are from spammers.

If you posted the question about the rotary prop - please repost your question. :D
