Hangar Flying / Varieze speed break
« on: September 27, 2005, 08:50:11 AM »
What is the stretched lenght of springs at AirspeedBrake RETRACTED position? (Handle on armrest). Mine are 350 mm = 14". is that a common value ? (unstretched length is 10").

gas strut replaces springs, no slamming back

Have you some data concerning this gas stut solution ?

I install one for canopy (as I fly Ez does). It work well.
Regards to you all.

Adjust the spring (LB-12) tension such that a 40lb pull at the trailing edge will kick the LB20 away from it's stop

? 40 lb,   or   4.0 lb ?
I suppose it is 4.0 ........
Please confirm.

Thank you.

I'll check exactly the battery data, and the starter too.

Thaks to you both for those quick reponses.

And, how many spires ?
According to diameters (wire & outer-spring), those springs are far stronger than those I install ! Sure, they cnn't work.

Thanks for your details

My starter itself work good.
After injections and 6 blades turning by hand, engine start in 2 blades.

My question is : what is the intensity used from battery from starter ? How to mesure it ?
I'm not sure my battery is strong enought to furnish that whith out domage.

Thank you for thr input.

But I need the all dimensions, as I don't plan to order springs from France, and intend to buy here equivalent material, or to manufacture them by myself with appropriate caracteristics.
(I'm now flying, and after moving, I lost the Speedbreak addendum drawing years ago, and those I instal are too soft. I'll appreciate avoiding lot of flyght tests to reach approximatively the operative value........).

What is the expected intensity during starter run for a lycoming O-235 ?
I use a Skyy-Tec starter 122-12FW. The battery 12V 14AH seems a bit short. wile running starter voltage drop is about 2A.
Thanks for input.
Regards.

Now back from hollidays in camping-car, it was very nice to fly again today ! Suny weather, no wind, no cloud and 35 Nm visibilty in the late afternoon. Wonderfull.

Hi Pushyhog,
Before I'll call you, What is your local time ? Europe ?
I'm CET = GMT+2 at Paris/France.
Is it OK now 4:57 GMT ?

[/b]What is your international country code ? 44 = England ?

Thanks to Dan.
My only purpose is to fix, as safely and easily as possible, this "hard valve" issue. I want it to turn freedly. In my mind, valve location change was just a possibility to facilitate force from wrist, not a goal. Same as you, I don't like the idea of fuel lines running front/back along the plane.

Thanks to you Dan,
Loged or not............

My purpose was not exactly to change VE fuel system to total LEz system, but to replace the Weatherhead valve, and perhaps the localisation.
I'll consider your sugestion and 'll lubed the valve up with a special silcon grease. Just need to find some special grease here...........

You change your valve to an ALLEN one. Is it the 6S122 model ? Spruce P/N 05-29500.
Pinted in catalog :
>>They are a direct, bolt-in replacement for Weatherhead and other fuel valves<<.
Is that thrue ? and easy to do ?...........

Regards,
Thank you for your attention.

To-morrow, 'll have a full day tour at Paris Air Show.

Hangar Flying / VariEze hard fuel valve

The standard fuel valve is incredibly Hard to turn.
I feel that dangerous, as I can't realy imagine to turn it safely while flying.
What can be the reason ? (I remember I proceed to tanks' capacities gauging, galon after galon, with car gas w/o running the engine   . Now using standard 100LL, can that be a reason ?)
Aluminium tube from front seat to the valve is free.
I know how to "open" the valve. Something to do there, inside ?

Shall I concidere to change this fuel system to the LongEze one? with a larger handel between the pilot knees ? I'll feel resotred to confidence...
If so, where to get drawings or schema and LE fuel valve part N° ?

Regards, and thanks to you all.

PS : Fly-testing FWMPZ is far hoter than FWWOW !!!
