Seeking information about long-ez in community hanger @ KVAY
« on: February 28, 2007, 11:01:56 AM »
I was at a local EAA chapter meeting and someone mentioned a Long-ez that has been in the corner of the community hanger for a long time.  He said it had flown some years ago, but was unsure if the current owner was the original builder.  Apparently it is in poor condition.

Looking for any information about this plane, I'll try to get the N number so I can check with the feds.

Update on N49KH

This plane is N number 49KH, built by Ken Humphreys in 1990.  It is not in horrible shape.  It does need work, but it's a real shame to see it just sitting there in the corner rotting.  The worst problem seems to be with the paint, it is coming up in large sheets.  Other than that she looks lonely.  Maybe someone can do something with her.  I'll post some photos.  I'd be interested in hearing the history of this plane.

Better check the engine, . .

Could be older than  12 years ! !

The body doesn't look too bad.  If the paint is coming off like that, . .perhaps he didn't get a good bond.  Maybe something between the paint and body.

Wow! Did you see the empty weight of 1046 lbs for a Long with a O 235 L2C. That seems on the heavy side. Maybe the filler material was the problem not only for the paint but weight as well.

That is something that may be easily remidied. Sand it down and re-paint it and you have a good to go airplane again

Plane

I made some inquiries about the plane about a year ago. I left my name and number with the airport manager to give to the owner, but never received any replies.

I would be interested in learning more about it as well.

Thanks
Mike

I spoke briefly with the owner, he lives in South Carolina and does not have the time or money to deal with the plane.  He seemed receptive to selling it.  He said he has not flown it in years.

Sale Reported

Landing's N-number search says a sale has been reported.  That usually takes a few months to show up so.....

No sale.  Saw the plane again today, she just continues to sit.  Waiting to fly.

I spoke to the owner also back in 2007 also, asked for additonal information about the plane, gave him my e-mail address but never heard back from him.  I agree it seems like such a waste to let it just sit there.
