What to you use for "Best Glide Speed" in your long ez?... I am rededicating myself to engine out practice...

I wonder if using the speed brake for practice would be a good offset for the fact that we are carrying rpm in a simulation that would not be there in a true engine out?
 ...any tips (besides practice, practice, practice)

I generally used 70 KIAS and the engine turned off at 10,000' AGL over a good size airport. With the prop stopped you pick up 15% less VSI. I did it both at idle and engine off.  Since I am in the middle of freaking Iraq right now. I don't have my data base. Dim memory recalls about 800' FPM or so down.  With the last couple of thousand feet far less VSI. Air is far thicker there.

Note, to kill the motor at that height, you need to kill the mags/electronic ignition.  Then setup for a relight when you need it. In my case, at about 110KIAS the prop started turning. Basically I buried the nose till the prop started moving for a smooth relight at idle. Let the temps build up and slowly throttled up.  My hard deck was 5,000' AGL for a relight.

If my freaking GPS was working, would had gotten the actual distance.

I have a few hours behind me and am a former Navy maintenance check pilot.  If you perform the above, ensure you have all of your ducks in a row lined up. It gets real quiet up there.
