jet EZ

Hello,
looking at Bede BD-5J jet - has there ever been any attempt to put a small jet engine to EZ? I know fuel consumption would split the range alot - but hey - having a JET EZ
would be interesting.
Anyway, I'm seriously considering this sometime in the future. What would be the issues to overcome possible problems, like for example FAA permit (or special ratings if needed?), cost, finding an engine etc.? I was thinking of very small turbine, the one in Bede BD-5J or even smaller.. Since the cost of EZs (and variezes) is so low already and small Bede jet-like turbines are also not sold for zillions, this would be a cost effective way for having a jet as a private pilot. BD-5J sure is tempting, but very rare and goes for $+100k these days. Old jet warbirds like L-29/39 can be bought for $60k-80k but then again cost of operation is too high and special training is needed. So small turbine instead of push-prop in the back of EZ really sonds intersting.

It looks really cool, and I'm sure it's a lot of fun, but from a practical standpoint, it doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

The cost to build and operate is highere, and the duration seems limited.

I think to really exploit the jet engine, you're probably looking at a completely different design.

  bd- 5 jets...have killed a lot of people...more than any other design .
 take in consideration..how many wher actually finished and flown...90% crashed.

Practical? no. BUT, the needle on the "Cool-O-Meter" is wrapped around the end stop.
