Dimensions for the Brock Spring NG strut

Hi Folks,,

Im currently doing a minor rebuild of my nose gear assembly..

and I thought that since I have everything removed,, that I might try to find, and install the Brock Spring strut,, well I havent had much luck in finding one!!!


I have a pic of one,, and now Ive made a 3d model in soldiworks,, but Im not 100% sure of the correct dimensions,,   Can anyone measure theirs and give me some pointers??

Also does anyone know the length of the spring uncompressed?  I have a bunch of springs to try,, but Id like to have everything similar to the Brock unit as it has been well proven!!

Tom, I used my digital micrometer and measured the dimensions you requested. Consider them only as good as my fairly new micrometer.

Walter

Stop Washer = 1.415"
Shaft = .776"
Spring = 3.563"
Spring to Shaft End = 3.438"

I dont supposed you coud take a picture (as square as you can) of your strut with a ruler in the background??

The numbers that you gave me seem to be a mile out from what figured..

This is the pic that I used to try and pull dimensions from,,

I'll put a section view of my part up as well.. I might have buggered it up..

If memory serves me. It is a 1900 pound die compression spring. Color code yellow.

Ok here is a section view of the strut that I modeled in solid works,,


I just need to dimension it properly, and then get spinning on the late!!

Here is the page from the Canard Pusher that gives you all you need.

No offence meant but it scares me that guys operating these a/c are not in possession of and familiar with everything in the CPs. There is so much info in them and many things/gotchas  to avoid/ lessons to learn / mistakes not to make again.

They are a great read and worth their weight in gold.

I got the CP's on line but they're missing all the graphics.  All I got was the text.  Where can they be had in full ?

They can be found here ( http://www.dragonaero.com/RAFCDROM.htm ) but this is very expensive and the CD includes info on the plans of the Long Ez Defiant etc that may not be needed.

The CP always said that copying and distribution of the CP is permitted -quote ' Reproduction and redistribution of this newsletter is approved and authorised' end quote.

Granted they relied on builders morality, honesty and committment to RAF by paying subscriptions for the newsletter but probably didn't envisage CDs, the internet & the capability to share the info so easily & widely. That said they are out of the homebuilding business and no longer rely on builders subscribing to the CP.

I have all the original CPs from CP 10 in paper format. As in the above LST case, I am very happy to post specified CP drawings on request to compliment already held electronic CP text, in order to help builders/owners maintain & fly their Ezes safely.
