Good day guys, I am thinking about buying the Long-eze that is for sale in the classified section ( the one for 25k ), N49DW. Does anyone have any information about this aircraft?

Aside from the fact that the owner is not the builder, no.

Just chiming in here to advise a prepurchase inspection by a qualified individual (this is just general good practice). Fortunately, there is one such person not far from the airplane: Ken Miller. Give him a shout and see if he'll look at the plane for you.

I've never had any dealings with Ken, but he comes highly recommended. That plane is not far from me (I live in CT) and if I had $25k available I'd seriously be considering it...and the first thing I'd do is have him do a prepurchase.

That very plane (with those same pics) was advertised somewhere else (I think it was on Controller.com or ASO.com) about 2 yrs ago for $ 21 - 22,000. I inquired with the owner and, IF I REMEMBER WELL, he said he had not flown the plane "for a while".  I honestly do not remember what he said when I asked about the plane being hangared or not, but I remember getting worried about possible corrosion issues and I decided to pass. I ended up buying a different Long-EZ after having the MN CSA representative inspecting it for me.
Bottom line: the approx $ 300 for a qualified inspection may be the best spent $ 300 in your life.

Wow, thanks. Why can it never be easy. A pre- buy inspection should be done before buying any aircraft, but can even a pre-buy spot problems with Long-eze's and Vari-eze's? Take Vari-eze's for example. I would like to buy one but with all the bad press...........Also the corrosion problems, can that be found on a pre- buy inspection?

I did the same thing, and got the same vibe 2 years ago. I almost purchased a Quickie2 that was priced too good to be true once, and have ever since been leery of low time low priced aircraft.

All things being equal, I'd pay more for a 10 y.o. Long-ez with 1900 hrs on it over the same Long-ez with 100 hrs on it. Contact the seller, feel him out, and see why he's selling and get the entire history of the aircraft. If he's not the original builder get the name of all previous owners & contact every one of them.

Also get a qualified inspector to go with you. Be sure to bring someone that has inspected several aircraft for purchase, and ask him about all the aircraft he has rejected and why. Then get references from him. If he's never rejected an aircraft there's no reason to bring him.

This all seems rather paranoid, but if you're really interested in the bird, you might just have a deal that's too good to be true.
