Vortex generator installation

I'm about to install vortex generators on my long ez.  The installation instructions that came from CCI were somewhat vague.  The canard is almost 12 feet long, but 100 vortex generators spaced 1" apart is only about 8 feet.  Are they supposed to be centered on each side? Should they favor the outboard ends?  Also, the thickest part of the airfoil appears to be about 2" forward of the 50% chord line.  This may be my imagination, but it does seem forward if the elevators and canard are both used to measure chord.  Does anyone have a measurement from either the trailing edge of the elevators or the canard elevator cutout line.

For this type of airfoil, the 50% chord is the thickest part of the airfoil (as opposed to the quarter chord for most).  The best way to line up your line is to eyeball the end of the canard and look for the thickest portion---make a mark.  Then measure this mark from the back edge of the canard (not the elevator---but the aft edge in front of the elevator.  With an accurate measurement, you can lay out a couple of measuring marks on the "right" and "left" canard.  From here, you can snap a chalk line.  Use the template to draw the vg marks (I used a small magic marker---can't see the mark with the vg on top---even though the vg is clear.  Use silicone to attach them.

Where are you at in the sandpit?  I just hit the Biap area the other day and running out of TQ.

You lucky devil got here when the serious heat is finally leaving.

I am at COB Speicher.  Got all my gear and Army training at Ft Jackson during record breaking heat (~110F everyday---full body armor----I know---hotter in Iraq---but not nearly as muggy---I was wet for 2 weeks straight).  I found Kuwait to be extremely dry, Baghdad surprisingly humid, and Speicher not so bad (but then again, it is starting to cool).

Did you notice there is sand everywhere?  :lol:

Your up North, I was based there for 4 months.  Think we are lucky this year heat is breaking early.  Right now out of TQ we are only running as far North as the Big Snake.  We hit the big city a tad too often for me. It's a freaking hot run when you get past Fallujah.
