Vari-Eze N78SP project for sale on eBay
« on: October 02, 2010, 10:58:59 AM »
I have put my Vari up for sale on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330479736172&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT. I am moving, and won't have storage space at the new location. If you're interested in a formerly flying Vari, please take a look.

Thank you,
Herb

Sold. I bought it. I have been wanting a project for years, and though the timing isn't perfect at the moment it looked like a very reasonable price and a great way to get started. I am a former composite boatbuilder (carbon, glass, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, etc. I have done it all.) Going to travel next week to pick it up and bring it back to NW Arkansas where I live now, and hoping that there might be some other EZ folks in the area so that I can see some completed aircraft and maybe take a ride in one?

Thanks for your help,

Drew Wood

It seems like the best possible deal I could have come across short of having 20k to buy one flying. I have a lead on an engine and it sounds like the panel is bare so I get to have some fun putting it back together better than it was. It was also about the only way my fiance would have gone for it! (She doesn't yet realize what a small part of the cost that was.. :) ) Looking forward to bringing it home next week to so I can figure out where to start.

Best Regards,

Drew Wood

I have a hopped up O-235 for sale.  I bought a larger engine for mine.  The O-235  should yield about 140 knots which may translate to about 165 - 170 MPH.  This engine normally comes stock with 7:1 pistons, but this engine has the high compression pistons. 9.5 :1 .   Stock HP is about 118 hp at 2700 rpm.  With the high comp pistons, you can add about 15 hp ?  This engine should burn under 5 gph fuel.  I have pics and more info on the engine if you're interested.  920 - 946 - 4756

A decent VE with an O-235 should be WAYYYY faster than 140 knots!

I can do 190MPH all day long with my O-200 VE..

I obviously didn't write that last message. :) It's spam.

Thanks for the offer of the engine. What are you asking?

A good friend of mine has two pickled engines in storage. They are not useful for the VZ, I think they are 540's or slightly larger! Anyway, we are going to see if someone might be interested in working out a trade for one or both of them to put together something nice. This is more in my limited budget at the moment.

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of  7 K.   It's well worth that.  Not many hours on a rebuild with high comp. pistons.  I just want to get on with my O-320 but I don't want this one to rot away.  It's a great little motor.

Okay, so I am probably not close to making a purchase just yet, but I do have some questions about engines for this aircraft. This may not be the appropriate place to ask them, but in the context of this airframe I just bought... :)

There is a mount and some misc parts that I imagine are for the original 0-200 included, and I am trying to decide whether I should think about an 0-235, or just go back to the original configuration. It seems the easiest thing to do would be to put an 0-200 back on it and not have to mess with the airworthiness certificate, etc. just yet. Am I making this harder than it needs to be, or should that be a consideration?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know that much about the mounting of the O-200, but there are many out there that do.

You might check with  Claus Savier, . .I think he runs an O-200, . .Gary Hertzler,  or  Terry Schubert.   These guys know more about what's required to swap engines, . .mounts etc.  Also perhaps Hal Hunt. (exhaust pipes).  He's done some mount work.
