AnyEZ drivers in my area?
« on: December 17, 2004, 10:21:41 AM »
I am looking for any EZ owners in my area that would be willing to allow me to take a look at their aircraft. The itch is getting unbearable now that I am almost finished with my license. I have already flown in the back of a VE as a teenager with Jerry Sloan out of the Mojave Skypark in southern California. Unfortunately, at that age I did not have the appreciation for the airplane that I now have. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you ever get close to FDK, drop me an email and we can probably hook up. Am guessing ROA is Roanke, VA. Lil South of me.

I know of one EZ, South of me with at least one wing off for winter upgrades. Will let him chime in. But if you get a shot, you will see the wing structure and wing beam up close and personal. Let alone a real robust O-320 motor.

Allen,
Let me know when you are ready to go. Cell8053404684.  Airport is Culpeper (CJR).  I live about 45 minutes from the plane.

As things stand right now I have set some time aside to drive to the Culpepper airport Sunday afternoon. I need to map the drive from Alexandria to the airport.  What time would be best for the two of you to meet? If its fine with you guys I would like it to be about 5-ish.

Regards,
Allen

0900 to about 1500ish on Sunday would be much better.  1700 is too cold and too dark.  I live about 45 minutes NE of Culpeper.

Drew,
What could I expect as far as drive time to get to your airport from pentagon? I don't have a good feel for traffic in the area so I do not know how much time to buffer into my schedule.

Sunday shouldn't be too bad. Hit www.airnav.com  then hit the airports and input "CJR".  Should be able to mapquest the route.

Yeah, weather permitting I can slide in there before 1500. Gives me a chance to check his other wing off.  With any luck that replica Mustang will be up. That puppy has a really noisy motor.

I will probably launch around noon or a tad earlier.  Beats the hell out of driving for sure.

It's been too damn frozen for me to fly.

From Chantilly, it is about 45 minutes.  Pentagon to Culpeper is probably about 1.5 to 2 hours.  Traffic should not be bad.

Forecast might have some rain in the late afternoon. Will try for a noon arrival. Well blast over your hangar and see if your there.  Spent several hours going through the bird today.  Had to wait till the water thawed out finally.

Going up for a New Years flight too.  Will have my serious tool boxes along too.

Happy New Year!!!!!

Thanks for the tour Drew! As I had hoped, I learned allot in the very short time we were able to stay. Only after we left did I remember the other hundreds of questions that I neglected to ask. Isn't that how it usually works out. I was also happy to hear that you are in the tail hook community ridding in the bird that I know and love so much. To say that I have blood sweat and tears in those birds would be a monumental understatement! I'll have to pull out my old cruise book and bounce a few names off of you and see if some of my old friends are still flying.  Two inparticular, Steve Morris aka Grinder. Last I heard he was flying adversary in Fallon. The other would be Mike "Flex" Galpin. He transferred to the Pentagon in 96'  and I haven't heard a thing of him since. Both are great guys and really influenced my career choices.
Hopefully within the next couple weeks I will have passed my check ride and will be able to take the Cherokee up and visit again.
