I hate to be the one to break bad news and seems like we have way too much of it in the EZ community but
Jack was killed during the first flight of his new E-Racer Extreme July 31st:

Most of the images in the photo section are from the CSA (Terry Schubert). Terry
sends us all the submitted photo's on a CD each quarter and they are loaded  in bulk. There
are no comments, etc other than what is in the CSA newsletter. There is a way for anyone to
comment on each picture and that might be the best option we have.

The CSA images are loaded for the latest newsletter. Be sure to use the password from the newsletter.

Terry Schubert publishes a newsletter (CSA or Central States Association) each quarter dedicated to Rutan
canards and he allows ez.org to publish the user submitted photos from each issue. More information is
available here: http://www.ez.org/csa/csa_info.php . The ez.org site is not connected to CSA in
any way other than publishing the pictures and Terry asks that we only allow CSA members to view the
pictures using the password in each newsletter.

I just eyeball them as the link shows, never had any plans(I've done 4 now) but I think there are some templates floating
around.

If you just extend the lines from the fuselage down to where you want the point to be it works out pretty well. I
was told when looking from the side that the nose should taper to about a golf ball size radius and looking from
the top about a softball size radius for the most pleasant look. The nose should also come to a point about a third of
the way up from the bottom of the fuselage which is about 8".

I also rough out the side view first, then the top view, not both at once. One the top and side are close I
round the edges. Use a wire brush to start and then a long sanding board as you get closer.

Are you talking about Divinycell foam for the fuselage sides and bottom? Composite engineering is not a place for guesses and
I would not substitute any foam in the wings or fuselage based just on color. If you can find the technical details of the foam
 you are buying and feel qualified to make the call that it's properties are the same as the plans call for you might be able to
get away with a substitution. The total cost of foam from Spruce or Wicks is a relativity small percentage of the total you
are going to spend so why not get the GOOD STUFF? I've seen old Varieze's where the foam that Rutan called for was not
Divinnycell and the older Vari's suffer from a lot of de-lamination because of the lesser quality foam. I seem to  remember
the sheer strength of the Diviny is the reason Burt upgraded to that foam for the LongEZ.

You can use blue flotation foam for the nose and canopy where the plans call for urethane foam. You will pay a slight
weight penalty over urethane  but you will have better luck carving it. I've done four noses and three canopy's and
I much prefer shaping the blue flotation foam.

Thanks, I was kicking myself a little because I tried to have no downtime at all but
it ended up being about 40 minutes plus a few false starts. I had forgotten to install
the session caching subsystem (sharedanced) that parts of the site uses and I had
to find it, compile it and get it configured after I had taken the old site offline.

I'm pretty happy with the performance, it's amazing what 4 year newer servers can do. The
usage is barely cracking 10% on the CPUS's now and disk is about the same. Before we
were hammering the server at close to full capacity at times from the various functions on the
server. The photo section just pops the images up now instead of a slow roll-down.

We are making some final configuration changes and the site may be down for short periods this morning.

It did not go as smooth as I wanted but after about 40 minutes of downtime the site
is now live on the new server. Please report any issues you have on this thread.

Just an update. The new servers are configured and up and running.  All the data and software has
been copied over (over 150gb).

We started copying data Friday morning but a problem with a mis-configued router at the new data center shut
down access to the servers for most of yesterday afternoon. After some usual finger pointing they were
able to correct things. I'm not sure why it took over 8 hours for them to resolve but it may be due to the
weekend crew being on call. Either way I was not impressed and hope it's not a sign of things to come. I'm
going to give them the benefit of the doubt but I'll keeping the old servers up and running at the old data
center just in case.

Due to the problems yesterday and also the web traffic on the site this morning I'm not going make the final
switch till later tonight. We will make a final copy of any uploads or posts just before the switch.

If all goes as planned the site will not see any significant down time and the switch over
will happen sometime this weekend. The new servers are bigger, better, faster and should
correct all the problems we have had the past few months.

You may notice the site being slow as the bulk of the data is copied over to the new server prior
to the final switch.

We will post a message here about an hour before we make the final switch over and only expect
to be offline about 30 minutes. I will also update this post with status updates.

Also, please report any problems on this thread once we are back up.
