Glass Overcast Registration

A quick note for the cruise speeds we're seeing.  We're not looking for top speed or inflated speeds.  We really need to know what speed in KTS that you are comfortable cruising your airplane.  The flight profile will be based on the slowest cruise speeds.

I've been hesitant to register, and to decide whether or not to join the mass arrival in our VariEze. We have owned the aircraft a little more than a year, and I still have less than 40 hours in the type. It is a very nice and reliable airplane, and we flew it from Denver to Phoenix and back at Christmas. I also have less than 150 hours total in my logbook. I have flown in formation with other EZ's on five (5) occasions, but I am not entirely comfortable yet with what you have planned.

The advantages that I see are of course being part of an historic event that won't happen again, and the implication that aircraft in the Glass Overcast arrival may not have to pull off the runway and taxi in the grass.

If I am told to run my VariEze off into the grass, it will probably be damaged.

The GlassOvercast arrival will be far less difficult than the Rippon/Fisk Arrival.  As for formation flying, this isn't.  We will be spaced a little closer than one would be when they follow someone in the pattern.

As for taxing in the grass.  I feel the same way.  I've been to Oshkosh the past three years in a row and have parked in the same place we are using.  What I have done is to hop out with the motor running and taxi the plane and walk it as I worked the throttle.

One last note about this arrival.  We did the exact same thing last year following the AirVenture Cup Race from FLD to OSH.  It's a no brainer.

You did have one thing right, this is a once in a lifetime shot and all I will say to you is this.  Go out and follow a guy in about 5 to 10 second trail.   Get that picture in your head and see how it feels to you.  That's about what you'll be seeing during this event.

Yes, you have made us more optimistic about joining. One other question I have is related to the paperwork requirements. What does a "copy of my latest BFR" include? All I have is a signoff by my CFI in my logbook, after the BFR flight. Will a photocopy of this page of my logbook be sufficient? Is there some other official document he was supposed to provide?

We like to arrive early, as in a day or two early, at Oshkosh. So we will be flying the FISK arrival anyway, as we did in a Cessna in 2002. We want to camp with one of the canard groups, and would like to get a campsite spot earlier than later. Then we would plan to fly from KOSH to KMSN for the pilot meeting and mass arrival. Do you see any problems with this plan?

Glad you signed up. We have two more from Colorado registered. Myself in a longez and a buddy in his varieze. We fly together pretty often and can't wait to get up to OSH.

We are based out of meadowlake 00V, so not far from you.

Your flying partner wouldn't happen to be Burrall, would it? We've visited Burrall and Joyce. It's wierd taxiing up the tiny sidewalk/taxiway to their house on 00V. They fly a VariEze and are building a Cozy, both just as we are.

I just got back from flying our VariEze from the Rocky Mtn. EAA Regional Fly-in at Front Range. Flew it over there yesterday. Weather was much nicer than forecast. Was part of a mass departure today, and they had me behind a very nice Cessna 140. I had to bank and turn to his right over the far end of the runway, overtaking him at a pretty good clip. It was a nice fly-in, biggest ever for the RMRFI's 27 years.

I'm sorry I didn't see your follow up questions about the BFR.  I thought I'd get an email to let me know you posted (I did the first time).  At any rate, you are not required to fly with your log book as we all know HOWEVER in this particular type of event, the FSDO or FAA "MIGHT" (doubt it very much but like I said - MIGHT) want to check that.  I fly in airshows all the time and am rather used to this type of thing.  A photo copy of your BFR and a photo copy of your Condition Inspection will do just fine.  

I'm glad you registered and I will do everything possible to make this flow smoothly.

My Long ez isn't quite done yet and not wanting to mis out on any of the historical events. I was wondering if I could push my long ez to oshkosh this year in formation of course. :lol:
