Gravity feed fuel system question!

How significant is a slight uphill run in the fuel line installation? Does it have to be downhill all the way? I suspect that there is enough pressure due to gravity to mitigate any small uphill passage fuel might have to make. I am installing my gascolator and it looks like I may have to mount the gascolator with the inlet slightly higher than the fuel shutoff valve.
