Need your opinion

Hello,

I'm new to this site and need an opinion.  I began working on my Long-EZ in 1986 and stopped working on it as my family grew and free time dwindled.  Fuselage, wings canard and center section are structually complete.  Since then it's been tucked neatly away in my cool dry basement, shaded from UV with the hopes that one day I'd have the time and a place big enough to work on it again.  My question, has it been too long?  Would it be structurally sound if I were to continue working on it or should I fill it with dirt and make a nice planter box?  I was using the Safety Poxy resin system during construction.   Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Well, I have been working on mine since the early 80's also.  Family is raised and gone (as gone as anyone can expect) and now am making good progress. I expect completion next year.  See www.longez209.com web site.  There should be no structual issues if stored properly.

If the structure has been protected as you say, then no problem at all.  Consider that there are FLYING LongEZ/VariEze airframes that are older than your project.

I'd guess that any leftover resin (un cured) that you have is probably trash.  There are compatible resin systems.

I finished mine in 1986 and it has been outside in Chicago ever since.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.
