We will be installing new software on the ez.org site tomorrow and the site will be down
for a short period of time starting around 9:00ct.

There will be a different look and a lot more functionality when the upgrade is complete.

I updated the database server and some other systems and it seems to be OK now. I'll get started
deleting the SPAM... there must be a hundred or more in the San Diego section.

Hangar Flying / New forum software

I've loaded new forum software to add some functionality to
the site and hopefully to cut down on the spam. I've used this
software at other sites and prefer it over the old phpBB forum
software.

All the old users and posts should have converted. The attachments are showing twice on
old posts for some reason. And I'm looking into that.

Please let me know of any problems.

There was a long-ez that was modified like that. As I recall there
were minimal changes to the flying qualities with a very
slight increase in roll rate. There is a write up in an old
CSA newsletter.

Sorry guys... a recent crisis has not allowed me to get
the pictures loaded yet. I won't bore anyone with the
details but I will get the pictures loaded soon. Thanks
for the patience.

I've noticed traffic is down on ALL aviation sites/lists... the
only thing I can tie it to is the economy and fuel prices. And I've
also noticed prices on plans, project and flying ez's are way
down compared to three or four years ago.

The main gear hoop is the same on all long-ez's. As far as I know
Featherlite was the only maker that was approved by Rutan.

There are many builders that add an aerodynamic cover to
improve airflow. The mod nets about 10mph if done correctly.

Lightspeed makes a molded main gear fairing:

I use MGS with a mixture of slow and fast hardeners (335 and 340).

If you have never done any glass work stay with the slow and you will have
plenty of time.

For filling use micro with West and the slow hardener (206??).

I also like Aeropoxy light filler, it works well and you will not have hardness variances between different micro layers. The weight as I tested it was
almost the same as micro/West unless your micro is very dry.

I think many have tried to fix this problem none real successful except
for the offset tube mod.

I was looking at the pre-made offsets this morning on the Cozy Gurls website.

I don't think its a big undertaking if you have the parts.
 
I seem to remember some articles in past CSA's about how to make these
yourself. I believe there have also been some alternate mods to cover the existing tubes. You might find it the CSA index.

The member list has been down since the last hacker visit. We have been
working on a new and improved version where pictures can be loaded
and changes made to information as needed.

We hope to have it sometime soon.

Hangar Flying / Shirl Dickey Spar Mod?

I believe the ERacer used more plys in the spar layup and I've not heard of anyone doing this on the Long-EZ.

I've also heard others say that this was not advisable on either aircraft. Because making the spar stiffer/beefier only adds weight
and does not affect the overall strength of the completed wing.

Since there has NEVER been a spar failure on a Long/Vari/Cozy I doubt you could make a case it was needed.
