Check the VariEze vs. Long-EZ bow weight topic below for more information.

Basically, I would say no - not without a lot of work.  Problem #1 is that the Long-EZ gear is longer than the original VEZ gear by 3 inches.  It would take some mighty tricky work to get those 3 inches added back on (Possible because you can do almost anything with composites, but not everything that is possible is worth the effort!).   :?

Problem #2 is that the VEZ gear is not nearly as strong as its bigger, heavier LEZ cousin (65% stronger, says Rutan).  That means that you would also have to add many wraps of BID or whatever to get up to an acceptable LEZ gear strength.

Lots of VEZs have the LEZ gear installed (properly modified) and it's a desirable substitution.  Never heard of a LEZ with a VEZ gear.  Possible, I suppose, but I wouldn't recommend it.  (Also, the VEZ gear hasn't been made for for 20+ years, so I assume that you are talking about a real old-timer that has been laying in the 'parts pile' for a goodly while - not that it would matter?)

Someone is trying to get $300 for a USED Varieze bow on Ebay.  He thinks that it is worth more because they aren't made any more.

I guess this means that a Ford Pinto should command a pretty penny too...
