I bought N64HL to log hours for my ATP, enjoyed every hours of it, cheap to operate and maintain, burns 4.5 gal/hrs at 155Kt TAS, you can actually go somewhere, no corrosion on a composite airframe and a reliable O-200, it is a lot of fun. Now I want to teach my son to fly, I cannot legally do this in an experimental, I would like to keep it but have to sell. :'(

Hangar Flying / Variable pitch prop. for Varieze
« on: October 14, 2006, 11:55:48 AM »
I bought a Varieze with a 0-200 continental engine, due to the difference of size and weight of the previous owner and me, I adjusted the CG, and gain a lot of stability and some speed (Thanks to the ez.org member who helped me on that matter).
But if i can believe what i heard, i could be able to fly faster, increase my cruise speed.
I wonder about installing an electric variable pitch prop. like the spruce catalog offer, that could be the best of the two world cruise prop. and climbing one.
Now does someone know about installing one on a pusher, i read about an ez.org pilot in Switzerland who did that.
To conclude i flew my eze (with the new cg) and put the aircraft on a shallow dive and used the extra speed to fly level on the momentum, the aircraft act very good, the fuselage is perfectly horizontal; but after a little while i loose the speed. Is it that at that moment, i would need more pitch?
Last question, i read about some vortex generator on the canard, to avoid the wet or mosquitos squished loss of lift, if somebody has knowledge on the subject, how much, how tall, where on the canard?
Thank you for your answer, and enjoy the fun of flying your pushers.

San Diego EZ Squadron / Questions about speed and Varieze
« on: May 21, 2006, 09:15:52 PM »
I an a new owner of a varieze, I flew recently to Middle west with my aircraft, I have a continental 0-200 and I was not able to fly faster than 120Kt, but in general It was more around 110 MPH!!!. I have the feeling that my aircraft is flying nose up at all the time, I am a lot lighter than the previous owner, Is It possible that with the particularity of a canard, I need to put some wheight in the front? and therefore move the cg forward? The previous owner just changed the prop before the sale could It be that I have too much pitch, or not enough?  Do I have to work on having my Aircraft horizontal before worrying about the prop?
If somebody has ideas I will be very grateful of any sort of hints.
Oh and by the way, I am o professional helo pilot, and I love the Varieze
