Exhaust pipe routing

Hey boys,

Just gettin' around to fitting my cowl after buying a " used " or should I say " custom " set of exhaust pipes.   The lower cowling hits on both sides pretty good.  

I was wondering,  (waiter),  is it possible to route the forward exhaust pipes back & through between the oil return lines and the intake pipes ?  That would almost (after the initial turn ) be a straight shot to the rear.  If heat were a problem, I could have them ceramic coated.  This looks like the jolly best solution on both sides.

Anybody want to weigh in ?    Lycoming O - 235  LC2

A picture would help to see what the problem is.  Hal Hunt pipes tuck up pretty good and should not hit your cowls.

Hey Drew,

I had considered Hal Hunt pipes but they're pretty pricey.  I bought a used "custom" set from  Dr. Schubert.  The rear pipes seem to fit o.k. but the forward ones both hit the lower cowls and especially the starboard one with the carb heat sleeve.  

I'll see if I can get a pic. on here.

One other problem I thought might be is that if I run the pipe under the jugs, it might inhibit the cylinder cooling because of restriced air flow.

Here is a picture of the back end of my old longez.  At that time, I had only modified the back of the cowl so that the engine would fit.  The plan was to take the huge lower cheek humps out---but they tuck up pretty good.
