Roll Bar
« on: September 15, 2005, 10:55:37 PM »
Hi!  I would like some information on building a metal roll bar for a Long EZ.  I would like to know what size metal, details on building it and how attached.  Did it make it difficult getting into the back seat?  Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Good Morning Paul,
I just finished installing the "Bill Allen" tubular steel roll bar on my Long-EZ. A picture is probably worth a thousand words here so I can email you some when I get home tonight. Just let me know where to send. Basically there is a 4130 steel hoop that goes over the pilot's head and two support braces that come up from behind. Two "L" shaped rails can be bonded or bolted to the longerons. The bottom of the hoop and rear braces are welded to the rails and the tops of the braces weld onto the hoop. I attached mine with 8 AN-4 bolts.. 4 on each side. I'm very happy with the results so far. I cut off the triangular fiberglass rollover/headrest and the view out from the back seat is tremendous. I'm in Southern Ca so if you're in the area come take a look. Hope that helps.. pics to come this weekend.
