Mines been like that for years, I thought thats the way it was supposed to be?

I initially had a concern about which way cooling air flowed through the alternator, But I think the fan on the front of the alternator is actually a centrifugal type blower and sucks air through the alternator.

Anyway, after ten years and 2500 hours, my Nissan alternator has had no problems.

If you are using an automotive type alternator check the fan blades to make sure they are in the same direction as an aircraft alternator.  If you don't it will blow instead of suck...
