Title: Blast Tubes
Post by: flyingwaldo on January 18, 2012, 07:46:39 PM
I guess I've been hanging out too much with Ramp Vermin (!) but I wonder; does the canard design with updraft cooling reduce or eliminate the need for blast tubes on the mags, vac pump, etc....?  Am at a point where I could add this but don't understand enough about the air flow and heat sink action on the parts in the accessory case due to oil heat.
Thanks!

I've seen a lot of discussion on downdraft cooling but nobody with a simple comparison with prior updraft...

I've got 2200 hours on updraft and never had to add special tubes to cool mags, etc.  Some people add pop up doors above the accessories and oil cooler up that way - seems like adding drag to me - we found best place for oil cooler was under the alternator, tilted toward the cowl intake area..

Beagle - I don't always check here - respond to canardfinder@att.net if you like.
