I have a very nice  low time O-235 with 9.5 : 1  High compression pistons that I'm probably going to put up for sale.  Also have the matching prop and prop extension.  I was fortunate and found a great " deal "  from Paul Poberenzy  on VERY  low time rebuilt O-320 so I'm toolin' up for that engine.  The O-235 -L2C has very few hours on it.  A ferry pilot flew it from Arizona to Wisconsin and said it ran beautifully.  I only flew it once since then. It's pickled and I have an air dryer pump going through the case. Dessicant plugs in the jugs.  Pickeling oil in the case.  Not sure what I need to get for it but I'm open to offers.  It does not have a "sign-off" on the recent rebuild so that's the one catch. But it's for an experimental a/c anyway. Have yellow tags for most of the rebuilt components. Also logs.

Give a call if interested.  920.946.4756  Glennbob

Bill,

If you're looking for a place to shave off that 6.5 lbs, . . .I think the easiest, . . . .well . . o.k.  maybe not . .but the best place to shave it is  . . . one's  midsection ! !  ( on self that is ).  I remember on my evening walks trying to calculate how much more fuel I could carry if I could shake 20  lbs and how much more range that would give me.  O.K. . .maybe it's not the easiest place . .but my bet is that it's the best place in all categories  ! !   Happy munchin'  ! !   =  )   Glennbob

Last painting I did was over a year ago.   I checked on the cost of the  K36  primer.  It was like . . .$ 90.00  a quart  or . .about  $ 200.00 for a gallon.  My paint rep said there was another one that would work just as well for build up and block sanding.

One gallon of paint should be plenty to paint a cozy.   Especially if most of it goes on the plane ! !    ;D

Don't know what they're worth.

What do you need to get for the throttle quadrant ?

I was afraid I might be misunderstood about the quart per wing thing.   Here is the clarification.   One quart was enough to shoot one wing twice.  There was a little left over.

Brian,

For  primer,  I used   K36  from  PPG.  It's an Acrylic Urethane Primer surfacer.   You can add (as I did ) a reducer to make it more viscous for spraying.  Then you need thinner to clean the gun.   It has significant body so you can wet sand it to remove sanding scratches, etc, . .for a beautiful smooth finish.

For the top coat,  I used a highly recommended paint by  Du Pont  called  " CHROMAONE SS "    - I  had mine custom mixed to match previous paint on my bird.  The paint mach didn't come out perfect, but the paint  is excellent.  It is a two part paint.  You must mix a hardener with the paint.  Then if you have any blemishes to fix you gotta do it within 24 hrs because the paint continues to harden.  I seemed to have a problem with orange peel.  Too dry shooting.  But I wet sanded the finish coat in the next day or two and followed with progressively finer buffing with buffing compound.   I ended up with a glasslike finish.  No wax for at least a month as the paint must continue to harden.   This stuff is supposed to wear like iron.  So far I have been pretty impressed.

I don't remember the cost of the primer but the paint was $100.00 a quart.  I got two coats on each wing with a quart each.

Good luck ! !   :)

I've decided that the more time I spend building  (re-building) the less time in my life is left for flying.  So . . .I'm  munna  leave the antenna right where it is.   I've seen a lot others there.

Maybe some future day when I've nothing better to do.

Right now, . . working on adding the diffuser after the naca duct.

The  " WEST "  system of epoxy seems to be the most widely used and approved of.  You can get different speeds of hardner. ( 205 fast or 206 slow ).

For my two cents, . .I don't think there's a non - destructive test.  As long as there looks like there are no air bubbles and you can count the plys,  you should be o.k.   Hard to tell though.

Yikes ! !

Don't want to start  WW 3 here ! !

I'm thinkin' I might want to put it inside the main spar.  Don't want to give up precious strake room.  I remember the antenna guru saying that you'd want to have a sheet of aluminum foil between this antenna and the gib to eliminate radiation that was similar to a microwave!

The  last portion of the NACA  scoop is where you're suggesting to put an extension into the cowl for better cooling . . .otherwise known as a  " diffuser ".  I had planned on doing that when the bird is on it's feet again.

The antenna should be able to be mounted just about anywhere since fiberglass is invisible to radio signals right ?  I like the idea though.  Then I can get a clean shot into the Naca.

I had heard that early disruptions in the naca flow would cause turbulence and less efficient flow into the naca scoop.

What I was wondering is the leading (small) edge of the naca scoop, . .should that depression be abrupt or blended smooth into the preceeding body.  Sounds like from Beagle,. .it should be smoothly blended.

My antenna (transponder) is just prior to the carb in the large mouth of the Naca.  I think as long as this is as smooth as poss.  it should be ok right ? ?
