Neil,  A C90 will also work fine.  They actually can put out more power than an O-200.  Their rated HP was at 2500 and the O-200 at 2800 RPM.  That said, the either can produse much more power with compression and cam changes.  They weigh less and most of the parts are less expensive.  The O-235 has unequal length intake tubes, solid tappets and those are not something that are positives.

I would definitely get someone who fully understands the type of airframe and engine installtion to inspect it for you...  Your life depends upon it.  I have now finished inspecting 50 airplanes and only 4 had nothing wrong with them.  The things I found in most were left me with, what was this guy thinking...  Many secondary owners get A&P's to install things and they do fun stuff like drill holes right through the shear web on the center section spar..   Most builder will gloss over any inspection because it a is a larger task than they first realize and it takes time to study every part of the aircraft.

For Sale/Wanted / 6 inch SAE 1 Prop Extension Wanted.
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:19:08 AM »
Have a need for a good 6 inch extension and 3/8" thick crush plate.  Saber manufactured is preferred but will consider others if you have the paperwork (receipt) who made it.  No crush plate is okay.
Needs to be SAE 1 with threaded drive lugs that use 3/8" bolts.

Hangar Flying / Re: Varieze Wing Attach

Joe,

I think the stock materials are used for a good reason.  I would sure had to try and lap in Ti cups.   :o
If someone really wanted to make a neat change then using a spar and wings built the same way as the LEZ to VEZ size and spec without the anhedral wood work well.  Who wants to sit down and figure out the spar cap schedule?   ;)

For Sale/Wanted / LONG -EZ Flying Project For Sale
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:41:15 AM »
Get a hugh jump start on building a Long-EZ!  The parts alone are more then $20K

The LEZ for sale is "N86DC" that is disassembled by the last owner to make a bunch of upgrades it has 784 hours on it and 92 on a 160HP O-320E2D.  The firewall is completely removed, no radio's or instruments of any value.  Electrical and control system completely removed.  The plane was registered with an O-320.  It has the added to reinforcement to the engine mount and the mount is powdercoated red.  Cleveland brakes w/thick disc's.  Klaus wheel pants on and Shin tires.  Whelen 3 light/strobes and power packs.  Very light weight carbon fiber cowls and sports the GU canard.
Will sell plane and engine separately  LEZ and associated parts $14K, Engine with Catto 2 blade prop, 8" Saber extension W/crush plate and bolts, 4 in 4 exhaust w/ heat muff, one LSE plasma E.I.  $15K,  Both for $27K.
The airplane is built very symmetrical, and would be a great spring board for the someone who wants to get a jump start on building.

Since we refurbish and make upgrades for LEZ's we can help if there is work you would like to have done (reinstall the firewall and extrusions) or put it completely back into flying condition with an instrument panel of your design!

Don't let this one get away.

Serious inquiries please respond to niceez@gmail.com.

Hangar Flying / VEZ Fuel Tank
« on: April 12, 2006, 10:02:04 AM »
You might check with Joe Person.  He made his strakes larger to carry more fuel.  The header tank on the VEZ is essential to the design.  I an refurbishing a VEZ now and am having to make a new header tank because the original builder made it incorrectly and it appears to leak.

A VEZ is not really the type of plane to carry a lot of extra weight whereas a LEZ can.
