Perhaps this has already been addressed and I missed it, but why not get a link started anyway. Since most pilots are technology geeks maybe everybody would like to share some software reviews.
Currently I have a Tapewave Zodiac
http://tapewave.com/ This is a VERY durable metal case PDA with two expansion slots. I have two 1 GB cards, plus the on board 128MB. This PDA was initially designed as a gaming device so the graphics are superb for maps. This also has bluetooth that I use to connect to a bluetooth slipper GPS. The two work great for moving map. However, I must confess that I have not used it in flight since the plane I rent has a nice GPS already installed so it’s a bit redundant. I do use it in the car to navigate around the DC area and it has done very well. My next cell phone will have bluetooth and I will hopefully be able to download real-time radar weather maps.
I use Copilot to plan flights and save previous trips for future reference. (You can do a search on
www.palmflying.com and find it as well as many other great programs.) Although Copilot is a bit of a pain to initially set up, its worth it. I have all weight and balance and performance data configured for the three planes that I rent. Once I have set up a trip I can quickly switch to another plane to compare flight times. This is also useful if I am taking a few friends along. I can quickly compare weight and balance in the different planes and compare.
