Title: Long ez or Varieze?
Post by: Mikeos98 on June 14, 2016, 10:19:03 PM
I am joining an eaa chapter and have the chance to take over a long ez with the fuse and gear done or build a Varieze from scratch. Any suggestions?

Tell us where you are located.  Maybe someone in the group can connect you to an EZ/Cozy builder who can take a look at the project with you, before you make any decisions.

I built/own a Long EZ, so I may be biased.  I would suggest that the Long is a better match for the majority.  40% more wing area, designed around the Lycoming instead of Continental, roughly twice the fuel capacity, better wing attach (my opinion) method, better resale value, Burt said starter is OK.

I've been collecting information on the choice for 25+ years.  If you'd like my blurb on the comparison, please send a note to David at CanardFinder dot Net

The V-Eze is a beautiful plane and the smaller size (wingspan & weight) makes it more easy to move around and tuck away in a shared hangar. However, there is no choice here. Go for the L-Ez. If for no other reason, just because it is already started and that will give you a head start toward completion. As you know, these are multi- thousand hour projects. There are numerous other advantages to the L-Ez, beyond those important ones mentioned by LongEzDaveA including more support for metal parts, resale value, etc.
