Hangar Flying / Long ez vs. rv6
« on: September 18, 2007, 11:25:39 PM »
Just want to say hello. This is the first week that feels like fall in Eugene. As  some of you know I purchased an rv 6 last winter with hopes that it could solve my delima of owning both a cessna 140 & the long ez . On paper it appears that the 6 could perform both missions. Story short, the long is such a sweet flyer that I can't bare to part with it. The six is for sale if anyone knows someone who wants one...$52k with IFR instruments, 310 tt,160hp lyc

Might trade for the right   cozy.

All the best,

Dave

Hangar Flying / Canards de Mayo

Thanks to all that made the fly-in at Columbia happen. Pam and I had a great time... Highlights for me included Ian's show and tell regarding his dream plane and a way to short discussion about how there is a military version of the EZ that can fly itself and land itself autonomously...so cool to see.

Would love for more presentations in the future...maybe one before dinner and one after....or something like that.

Also like looking at all the great planes..favorites for me...the 1st time I have seen Klaus's Vari (someone told me 250mph on an 0-200!!!)...so clean and interesting "z" tape where ever the plane tappers to excite the air so that it will stick to the plane rather than create drag...inspiring...

Thanks  Again,

Dave

Hangar Flying / Have you tried this with your EZ?
« on: March 10, 2007, 03:07:32 AM »
I was reading that Dick Rutan, in his demonstrations of the a/c, would killl the power, dive at the runway, then pull up and circle back for a landing... all without power...

anybody ever tried it?

Last night I was the only one in the Pattern and crossed the #'s at about 120 knots power to idle... didn't make it back...

Tried again and crossed the numbers at 140 knots...got closer but did not make it back with out power... I will need more practice but wondered if anyone has this down.

Also practice simulated engine out on deperture return to runway... I can make is back easy with 500' and not with 300' of altitude....

Anybody else have experience with these? I'd love to hear it.

All the best..safe flying,

Dave

Hangar Flying / Fuel burn with 0-235
« on: February 18, 2007, 03:16:53 AM »
I know that Don Denhart has figured out how to get his fuel burn way down to very little for pleasure flying.

I'd like to hear what you guys use for rpm and expected fuel burn.. I have the 0-235 l2c and am especially interested to hear what similar set-ups expect.

Thanks,

Dave

Hangar Flying / vibration on decent
« on: February 08, 2007, 10:39:58 PM »
Recently installed an 8" prop extension...Noticed a good change especially to take off acceleration... I do not have a spinner. Also notice a relatively high frequency vibration when I push the plane over to descend...my guess is it is some kind of cavitation around the prop... I pull back on the rpm's and it subsides...any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

Hangar Flying / Electric Socks
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:37:28 AM »
Just wanted to report that my electric socks are wired in and connected to a mircro switch on the panel.., they work great and solve one of my major gripes...frozen feet... they are from a motorcycle shop...they make all kinds of additional clothes that wire into the same system...makes sense to me to heat the body rather than trying to heat a space....

Hangar Flying / Quickie
« on: October 30, 2006, 12:31:40 AM »
Has anyone flown a Qucike? Not much information on the web about their flying charactoristics that I can find. Safety issues.

I met a gentleman named Gene who is going to fly his for the 1st time (Lebanon Oregon) shortly and talking to him and looking at his plane sparked my interest.

Any thoughts out there?

Hangar Flying / LOW RPM to save fuel
« on: May 15, 2006, 09:19:55 AM »
Are any of you guys running low RPM these days for fuel savings? I am thinking that Silver Eagle, Don Denhart has this nailed...cause he flys everyday.... to no where...

Also wondering about if what the thoughts are about leaning... I am confused cause what makes sense to me is that we should run at the best mixture at any altitude...doesn't the manual say lean only above 5k'?

Thanks,

Dave
