Title: Dual in the EZs

How reasonable is it for a CFI to train a private pilot student out of a Vari or Long-EZ?

Please PM/e-mail me if there is anyone in the southwest region who could take me up for some intro flights.

Generally, No;

Most EZ's are not equipped for dual control operation, This would be mandatory for basic flight training.

However, If an EZ was indeed fully equipped, I can only see two obstacles:

1) The need to find a CFI who would be willing to provide the training in the EZ.

2) An FAA Inspector willing to give the check-ride in an EZ.

Hi, Daudi

Your problem has a simple solution; contact Burrell Sanders in Falcon,
CO.   He can "give" (well, you have to pay for them) you some flights
in a Longeze or other canard pusher.   The only problem that I can see
is landing (well, takeoff, too).   You need to fly in a Cozy 3 or an Eracer
or a Velocity so you can see were you are going.     :lol:

My Brother inlaw is the FBO at HBZ (Heber Springs AR) and has a LongEz he built in '85. It does has back seat controls. (I flew in it about 5 years ago when visiting) He's a great guy if your ever around there.  Tell him his Wife's Bro sent ya! (his name is Dan )

Hi, Daudi

In spite of what "Jet" said, the problem with learning to fly in a Longeze
is landing.   If you are in the back eat, you CANNOT see enough during the
approach to land.

The Cozys, Eracer, and Velocity have 2 seats side-by-side so you CAN
see how to land.

Some people who are EXPERT pilots can do a curving approach and
land a Longeze when in the back seat.   A beginner should never
try that.

I doubt if a CFI would ride in the back seat and let you use the front.

True enough!

Was thinking more for getting comfy with the aircraft. Visuals are a bit limited in the back seat......
