Hangar Flying / VariEze on Ebay # 4599234526
« on: December 23, 2005, 07:51:19 PM »
I have personally seen the spot where a VE crashed and killed a pilot earlier this summer ( near CYQL),  and have felt the "sick" feeling in my gut the next time I flew.

The Vari is a cheap, fast plane, that can, and DOES kill.

How would you explain to a widow that "it wasnt by buisness" ?

If Franks' post even so much as prevents bugs from being killed,, Hats off to ya!

To all wannabe VE/LE drivers out there:

Find help from an experinced Canard Aviator in your quest for a plane, It may not only save your life, but also that of a loved one.

Hangar Flying / varieze tie down
« on: September 25, 2005, 07:53:16 PM »
Hi Dean,,

I really wouldnt be too worried about the lack of tie downs.  The VE can tolerate very high winds on the ground with ease.

I can check in my plans on where the hole is supposed to go (TE of the winf just inboard of the winglet)  if you like. .

Hangar Flying / Align Boring an engine case
« on: September 21, 2005, 10:21:36 AM »
Ok I just got an engine case (o200) back from the overahaul shop and they told me that the case is garbage. I guess the cam bearing surfaces are badly worn. well the trouble is I'm having a hard time trying to find someone to fix it!

Does anyone know of a good shop in the northwest that can align bore the case??  I'd hate to have to throw it out!

Thanks

Hangar Flying / E Mags
« on: September 21, 2005, 10:18:33 AM »
I dont see why anyone would not keep at least one old faithful (magneto)!

I think the risks of using two electronic ignitions are much greater than the added performance over one mag.

Hangar Flying / fuel valve
« on: September 11, 2005, 07:55:48 PM »
Keep safe with Burts design!!

Theres nothing Wrong with the stock system, besides if you did move the valve, and had an electrical failure, there is a good probablility that the engine will starve for fuel and most likely quit (perhaps just after takeoff!)

Hangar Flying / a partiularly horrible flying season
« on: September 09, 2005, 06:53:50 PM »
Does anyone know what happened to Glen?? was it the initial impact of post crash fire that proved fatal.

I live very close to where the accident happend but was on the other side of the county at the time, The area around the CYQL I would think to be a great place to do an off airport landing (in the middle of the praries).

I think we all need to learn from the recent events and hopefully prevent them from happening again

Hangar Flying / Vari & Long-eze MUST HAVES!
« on: July 07, 2005, 03:49:27 PM »
One thing that would be number one on my list (for a VE) is simplicity and light weight.  The lighter the better, ie no starter and minimal gadjets!

Hangar Flying / Changing From DOT-3 to J-13!!
« on: June 20, 2005, 09:05:48 PM »
What sort of flush is needed on the brake system to use j-13 (mil 5606) hydraulic after I've been using Dot 3??

I know the dot 3 is better, but a perspective buyer of the plane wants it back to J-13.   I think perhaps a rebuild of the sytem may be in order.  :D

Hangar Flying / attaching winglets on vez with kevlar?
« on: June 18, 2005, 01:33:13 AM »
Its soo nice to see people that understand stress analysis and "e" (not to mention moment of inertia!)

Burt is a Brilliant man! that wanted to see his airplanes fly>> NOT MAKE MONEY!

Burts plans are solid, and unless you have flown into space lately, dont question them..

Hangar Flying / Vari-eze, a good buy?
« on: June 08, 2005, 10:43:40 PM »
The VE is an excellent plane, that is in my opinion, undervalued.

Use someone that knows what they are looking for when doing a pre-buy inspection, this will ensure that you get a good plane and not someone elses junk.

just fyi:

I'm 5'6", 150lbs,, and my stock o-200 VE will blow the doors off of 90% of the stock (o-235) longs out there!!!

Hangar Flying / Breather
« on: May 25, 2005, 11:00:13 AM »
I routed my breather into the exhaust, I used a check valve from "air injection unit" from a ford crown vic and it works great!! All the oily vapours simply get burnt up in the exhaust. keep in mind  the breather line should tee into the exhaust near the tip.

Hangar Flying / Lift tabs
« on: May 11, 2005, 12:05:57 AM »
Charles,,

I can only beg that you stick with the plans and make the lift tabs out of the recomonded material. It is clear to me that your not an engineer and you dont understand what your doing..

Sorry to be so blunt, but it is the truth, and I'm sure others will agree.

if you have doubt in the design,, look at the pics here..
