Title: Arlington
Post by: flyingwaldo on June 22, 2013, 10:52:50 PM
Anybody going this year?  Seems to be shortened one day.  Fly out to Friday Harbor for dinner early Friday evening and .....?

I believe many canards will be there.   I will be there in my motorhome.  Please come by after 5 PM.  Look for 308VWB and I will have some of your favorite beverage on hand.   Hopefully it will be cold but I have not checked the refrigerator yet......   My parking space  usually is the 5th row back from the taxiway (where the aerobatic planes are parked) and about 12 spaces from the fence that separates the camping from other activities.  I generally arrive before most canards and stay after all have left on the weekend.  My wife and I
need the extra rest before hitting I-5 freeway.

Was hoping to hear from Joe.   Anybody talked to him lately?

Joe here.  We will be hosting a BBQ for canardian on Friday, July 12.  No charge for canardians and their guests, and courtesy of your friendly neighborhood ID and WA CSA reps and a couple of additional hooligans.

Cheers!

Great Joe, thanks!
We'll plan Friday Harbor Thursday evening.
Looking forward to both.

Another Joe here :-)   Just got back from Columbia and not yet fully recovered but my blond ballast (Harriet) and I will be there, starting with Bremerton for dinner on Friday Thursday night.  Talked with Jim Price and he'll be there too.

My location is 7S5 (Independence, OR), 50 NM south of Portland and I'll offer my place on a first-come-first-served basis to any flyers who want to stage out of here if the weather or daylight precludes direct flight, either to or returning from Arlington.  Guest room, hangar space, cafe on the airfield ...

Joe D is planning dinner @ Bremerton Friday

Corrected -- it's Thursday night.  Pardon my lack of S.A. -- did I mention that I hadn't recovered from Columbia yet? <g>

Don, it was good to see you and Ann at Columbia.  Thanks for all of your behind-the-scenes hard work that made the event so enjoyable for those of us who just "showed up".  [For those who weren't there: I counted 30+ canard aircraft on the ramp, there was a full house for all three forums, opening the bar early was a stroke of genius, and dinner was delicious.]

Not interested in Bremerton.  Mediocre restaurant and location.  I think it was Tom's idea for those that don't fly around the area much to see the City and the Navy yards.
Have fun if you need to do that again, a few of us will be in Friday Harbor where the food is great, the atmosphere is spectacular and the landing is interesting.......!

I am begging for a ride to wherever we eat.   I have never been to one of those dinners.   I have seen the Bremerton area from the air (from a C-152) and been to the restaurant (by car).   I pay for gas, oil, etc.   Please, someone...

You can ride with me Bruce, if I am in Arlington when we go.  May have to come direct from CA though.... I'll know more the day before.

Hi Waldo

Thank you VERY much.   I hope it happens.  Looks like a big "IF".   Your message is a bit unclear.

One + possible one.

What departure time we thinking of?  Or arrival time at Friday Harbor may be more appropriate...

Roseburg, Eugene and Seattle all look good the rest of the week.

Any suggestions on when to meet for dinner?  Some of us still work - helloooooo - gotta plan it pretty tight!

Bruce, am probably going to arrive direct from CA to Friday Harbor and you'll have to hitch a ride with someone from Arlington, sorry.  If it's before 6 I'll miss altogether and just go direct Arlington.

PS: crystal clear all the way at 1 PM today.

If meeting for dinner entails where to go at Friday Harbor, I recommend Downriggers (http://www.downriggerssanjuan.com/) on the waterfront, adjacent to the ferry landing.  10 minute walk from KFHR.  Can't make it myself - Medical held up by FAA backlog...

Well, Arlington is over.  We had about 12 or 14 canards.  I did not count.

Thanks to Joe Person, Dale Martin, and others for the meal.

The weather was GREAT.  Best year I have seen for 12 years.

Attendance was down last year and down more this year.

The military guys did a very good job with "Camp Davis" but not many airplanes.   The P-51 put on a great show.

The auto club a had VERY good display of cars.
