Title: What airfilter for an 0-320

I've been advised that best airfilter for a Long Ez is a K&N E-3322.  This filter is 6.25" outside diameter by 2.5" high.  That advise came from a person using a Lycoming 0-235.  I'm planning on an 0-320 and having read airfilter facts on the K&N website figure I need a bigger filter - possibly 6.25" X 3" high or 7" X 2.75" high.

Any advice from someone flying an 0-320?  What works best on an 0-320?

Selecting a specific manufacturer and model of an airfilter depends on engine size along with size and shape of the airbox.  If you follow the Long-Ez plans, the airfilter is circular.  If you build an airbox and attach it directly to the carburetor, it will probably be a different shape and size.

I tried to upload a one page article that Ben Owen wrote for a past issue of Sport Aviation, that deals with sizing an airfilter.  I kept getting an error and will send it directly to you.  Another good source of information is the CSA link on this website.  Download the spreadsheet which is a directory of articles in past issues.  Open the spreadsheet and search on "airfilter".  I don't know if the articles are available on line or not.  You might have to find a CSA member near where you live to read the articles.

I think the correct size is the biggest one that you can make fit.

K&N built me a custom airfliter that fit the space/shape  had available; it must be 25 years old and still works great.
