No one will. I think the point is that they are genuine plans from the RAF and they have not been used to build an airplane.

Hangar Flying / solitaire

Please help. I just won the bid on a set of original and complete Solitaire plans. I don't want to build it tomorrow but I think I would like to build one. I have been reading and now realize that the fuselage was pre-fab as well as the wing spars and a few other criticle items. I thought the plans would be like the Long eze or Vari eze and I would be able to fabricate everything from the plans. It is not so. I doubt anyone is producing these items now, it was Task I believe that produced them originaly. Thoughts?

That is an idea, can anyone confirm that the wings are the same on the Cozy? It seems that maybe the original Cozy, or maybe even the Cozy III, butsurely the Cozy VI has more wing area?

Ok guys, you got into it pretty well here, but the bottom line is that if you build "something" like a Long ez and have only one modification that was not approved by the RAF then it is no longer a Long ez. I have read that Burt said as much and asked that builders who modify this way name their plane something else. Then, you are using those plans as a "guidline" or something like that to build a one off design and quite frankly I doubt Burt would mind. I believe he wants people to build his designs and do it safely. He simply does not want the liability associated with that. Therefore, it does not seem such a violation to reproduce templates. I don't want to get something without compensation to the designer. If that were an option I would buy it without a thought. But even buying a "legal" set of plans that had a liscence will not let you build a legal Long eze because those original liscenses expire with the original holder. Period. So anyone buying plans or a project is fooling themselves if they are going that route to be "as legal as they can be".

It is interesting to me that no one out there has reproduced good templates for all the critical parts. The Q2/Q1 guys have someone that sells exact templates right on the primary q-website. I don't see how this would be a legal issue as these aren't plans, just accurately reproduced templates. I for one would be very interested in getting a "good" set of templates. Anybody out there with a good original set that has an interest in supporting the builder community and maybe making a few dollars? I am sure there are plenty of original plans out there in which people have lost or ruined the original templates rendering the plans useless to a would be builder...

Hangar Flying / trade for flying Long EZ?

Is anyone itching to build again? I have a beautiful GlaStar project which is at about 75% finished. It has a full IFR pre-wired panel from Aerotronics and many options. Since I started I have gained two young kids and a lot more time involvement at work and don't see an end to my time restraints. I would be interested in trading for a very nice flying Long ez. I believe the fair market value for my project with the panel is $40-45k. Anyone interested or know someone who may be? Please contact me at datcope@comcast.net

Hangar Flying / considering a Vari

I am considering purchasing a Vari ez. I love the design etc. My concern is whether I will fit and can fly it in Cg solo. I am 6 ft 2 inches which I am told will be ok, but I weigh 235. I read that max pilot weight is 220lbs. Yes, I can loose a few pounds but my dad is the other pilot who would fly this bird and he is a couple pounds heavier. I realize it would be a "solo" plane or with a light passenger, but will it work with a typical Vari ez CG?

I thought I would put out a warning to everyone. I bought a set of plans that were advertised on this site as originals. I paid $450.00 for them and received a set of copied plans without the promised newsletters. When I contacted him he said he did not know they were copies and would refund the money.
