Steve,

Agreed with regard to drag, position to airflow is critical.  I am hoping that I will see an increase in aileron authority.  Though it's more of a science project than anything else.

I have never flown any other Varieze so I don't have any comparitive data to go by.  Maybe I am just expecting to much with regards to roll rate.

this is a fantastic thread- having just bought a Vez 2 weeks ago, have about 4 hours and 10+ landings on her- the one thing that seems to be troubling my landings is aileron control.  I'm going to get these TE fences on asap.  where do i find dimensions, and measurements for where to install etc?  thanks guys

Hi
Rather than your Experimental Class, we have a much tighter regulation structure in the UK where mods have to be approved by the LAA Engineering Dept.

However I thought these fences were so good, I wrote & arranged for this Mod to become an LAA approved Std Mod for UK Vari-Eze's so they can be easily fitted to UK Permit to Fly  VEs without further extensive involvement from the LAA Engineering Dept, using the LAA MOD 1 process.

http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/engineering/NewMods/Mod_table.html

In UK, it just needs an LAA Inspector's sign off & informing LAA Engineering.

In USA you have much more freedom but can find everything you need here:

Best wishes with it. Well worth the effort.

Regards
Steve

Erik,

The LAA instructions mentioned above is exactly what I used and they work great.

I've talked to Klaus too - he suggested they just don't do as much for the Long EZ.  We lost Long EZ guy trying too hard to land slowly - be careful to check you reduction in speeds at altitude and then add a margin for gusts, unexpected gusts.  It's interesting to hear that you might get more aileron authority with them....
