I'm with Dick on the Long EZ - 160 hp O-320 is by far the best choice for Long EZ.  On the Varieze it is a bit of a handful compared to the smaller O-200 and O-235...

Hangar Flying / Re: Trucking a Long-EZ?
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:42:57 PM »
It's overkill - the plane can be lifted up on a flatbed without hydraulics...you only need a 12 to 14' covered box truck - where you can suspend the wings from the ceiling or flat on a wall.  If you go for a flat bed trailer you can put the wings on a pickup truck - being sure you tie it down carefully.  One of my friends had his wings fly off the pickup and totaled them...

No it's about a foot long, with the elevator bottom and the gap as a kind of tooth sticking up between canard and elevator.

Hangar Flying / Re: FAA registration question
« on: April 02, 2013, 12:04:34 AM »
You can reserve a number with the FAA and register a previously flying EZ on the FAA Registry with a new number, but I'd be sure they know what the prior number was.  The new Airworthiness letter does give you so many more rights than the pre-2000 Airworthiness letter.  If you'd like a sample, I can find it in my paperwork.  Depending on where you are, a Designee can help you get through the paperwork and if they offer to help, they are worth the money.  Where are you?

By the way, the Berkut guys found that there can be a kind of "null" in pitch if you don't get the gap between elevator and canard exactly right - so Dave Ronneberg has a very good template for that gap too...

Were it me, after over 30 years in canards, I'd go for O-235 rather.  I wouldn't go below O-200 in hp.  Anything in the C85 range is very hard to sell if you ever sell...

I try to track people selling things like engines, get in touch.
