Flying solo with luggage.

Have a question for you long haul guru types. If you are flying solo and need to carry several days’ worth of luggage, how do you do it? Has anybody found a particular bag or suitcase that seemed designed to take rides in a Long-Ez? I would rather not have to fold my suites and I will need to take the laptop as well as its case. I may just have to mail some stuff home before I depart to come home.
Regards,

I frequently travel with a standard size airline carry on that fits perfectly in the back seat.  On top of that, the laptop/work case with all my files, etc.  Both items get strapped down with the GIB's belt and shoulder harness.

Anything else I need to bring goes on the floor with my jacket over it so that with some twisting, I can reach over the seat back and grab it in flight.  The jacket also acts as packing for anything on the floor.  Gone through some pretty ruff air in the 500+ hours I've been using this a/c for work and have never had baggage come loose.

I've never seen anyone hang a suit in an Ez, but...

I have a 25 gallon fuel tank that straps into the back seat. It uses the passenger seat belt and shoulder harness to secure it in place.

An 18 inch diameter soft duffel bag usually sits on top of the tank and neatly occupies the space in the canopy.

Tool box, bags, boxes, etc all fit in front of the tank between the tank and the front seat bulkhead. I usually place the hard objects on the floor first, so they will not interfere with the speed brake operation.

I also have a Velcro strip on top of the tank that I mount my Ham Radio antennas on.

Use extreme caution with any bags, boxes, etc in the rear seat. My rear control stick is removable, but regardless, I pack the rear seat and secure everything to minimize the risk of objects shifting around and jamming the control system.

I made 2 cloth covers that cover the strake cutouts in the rear seat. These Valcro in place, and keep anything in the strakes from falling into the rear seat. Its a real bummer when you reach for your sandwiches, only to discover they are now resting on the back seat, and are out of reach, even with the  "Retrieval Rod".

I then place anything I may need during the flight in those cheap plastic bags they use at almost every store in the country. I have a metal rod with a small hook on it (thick cloths hangar about 18 inches long) I use to retrieve these bags out of the strake or from the rear seat.

I keep the "Retrieval Rod" in the plane all the time. It tucks away beside the Front Seat cushion.

Don't forget to blow air through the relief tube when finished. This prevents residual fluid from freezing in the tube. I clear the tube, I simply open my outside air vent, and hold the tube up against it for 30 seconds.

Good Luck

In addition to everything mentioned...

When traveling with 2 people in the Longez, I would pack all clothes in the large gallon ziplocks---and stuff them down the center section spar, the strakes, and the area behind the gib's head.  My wife would also pack a small duffle that would fit under her legs.  When arriving at the destination, we would stuff the ziplocks inside the empty duffles that we carried with us.  It is surprising about the amount of stuff you can carry with you when you pack this way.

Also, wife and I flew from Camarillo to San Franciso for a formal event (I took Mess Dress Blues (did not bother to bring the cover)---and wife took a dress.  Was able to put these items behind my seat cusion----everything stayed nice and flat---and clean.
