Hangar Flying / fire warning
« on: December 27, 2005, 01:48:46 AM »
Some guy recently had pics of his method.  He took a unit from a clothes dryer.  It is either a fire detector or a dryer overtemp indicator.  The picture shows it mounted on top of the engine. Then he has it wired to a light on his panel.

Hangar Flying / Cooling plenums
« on: November 23, 2005, 02:23:53 AM »
Does anyone know about the possibility of  Making cooling plenums like Bill James has except for updraft cooling ?   What type of material did he use ?  It would be great to be able to maintain safe CHT's while taxiing or doing ground tests.

Hangar Flying / Day Varieze to Night Varieze?

The reason the FAA suggests that the strobes may be turned off when the pilot determines that it is in his best interest is that when flying in haze or in close proximity to clouds, the reflection off of the visible moisture can be very distracting and can in fact contribute to vertigo.  This time the FAA isn't so dumb, but rather misunderstood.  This is more applicable to an instrument rated pilot flying in IMC.

Hangar Flying / First Flight

Just bought a new Long-EZ.  Need to get some Canard time. Right now I have Zero.  Anyone in the Osh Kosh area or East of there (Wis) that could give a little dual in a Cozy or other side by side ?  How do I get dual ?  How do I get prepped for that first solo flight ?

Hangar Flying / Why keep the engine certified?
« on: November 01, 2005, 12:01:09 AM »
Here's the poop on the scoop ! !   Or is it the other way around ?

Seems like there's a lot of " Opinions " out there, and now I'll add mine. If you really want the truth, you may have to dig into reliable sources, you know, . .like the FAA or AOPA or EAA.

Near as I understand,  you cannot legally leave the certification plate on an engine that has been altered from stock. ( No electronic ignition / high compression pistons etc. ) because it is no longer certified.  But, you may want to hang on to the placard, in case some day you want to have it rebuilt as a certified engine. ( Return to stock ). As to the value, it's anybodys guess.  If you can find a buyer who recognizes the value you have in it and if you can assure him it's as reliable as stock, you may get the same bucks for it.

You can't blow out a breaker by wiring it in reverse.  The breaker is designed to " break " whenever the load it's carrying is more than the rated amount.  It will then "break" or open the circuit.  The line side always goes to the power source and the load side goes to the equipment being protected.
