Anybody been affiliated with either of these two birds? Just curious as to why the 17k bird is so low. granted it is a very modest panel, but I get the "if its too good to be true" voice nagging me. I'm hoping that either of these would make a great starter EZ for me and the prices are very attractive. The next step would be to barter a deal with a builder who would be willing to look it over for me. Is there a service for this, or do you have to know someone?

A price of 17K for a Varieze is not low. I've seen them range from 10K to 24K for a flying aircraft. Most are in the 15K to 20K range depending on equipment.
The problem with the wing attach corrosion seemed to hit them pretty hard. Although it seems to be a non-issue, have a experienced builder check out any purchase.
Also check with David Orr. He keeps a database of aircraft and may have some info on it. He is listed in the member directory or links section.

I know the owners of both of the planes being sold by freeflightcomposites; top notch guys. The one priced at 17k is a very sound flying airplane, but the builder finish isn't as nice as the one priced a bit higher. I'd call freeflight composites and talk to them if you are interested in the planes. I'm sure they would be happy to tell you all about them, or show you the planes if you are in the Colorado Springs area.
I have a longez on the same field and have flown with them. I hate to see either plane leave the area :(
