Title: New buyer of a LongEZ asking for any info
Post by: alcornl on July 08, 2006, 08:31:03 PM
Hello. I am planning on purchasing a long ez in detroit and wondered if anyone on hear has ever seen or known this plane. Tail number in N61WD. I'm betting this is a long shot but thought I might try. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't personally know anything about this EZ. However, a quick look in the databases at landings.com brought up the following:
N-number : N61WD Aircraft Serial Number : 2152 Aircraft Manufacturer : DURGAN WILLIAM DEAN Model : LONG-EZE Engine Manufacturer : LYCOMING Model : 0-235 SERIES Aircraft Year : 1993 Owner Name : FERRUCCI DAVID J Owner Address : 74 WHITELAWN AVE MILTON, MA, 02186-3515 Type of Owner : Individual Registration Date : 28-Feb-2002 Airworthiness Certificate Type : Experimental Approved Operations : Amateur Built
Nothing shows up at the NTSB site. A quick search of pilot certificates on the builder yields nothing. And for whatever reason, could not find a pilot cert on the owner. However, it could be a spelling thing---I have seen the FAA mess that up before.

Thank you very much for the information. I'm going up next week to look at it and I'll let you all know how it works out.

Before buying any EZ type aircraft, especially if not really familiar with the type, I would check with the Canard guru, David (Beagle) Orr. His email address is: canardfinder@worldnet.att.net.... David knows virtually every canard available for sale and can help steer you to a well built and maintained aircraft, as well as suggest those where you may NOT wish to put your $$$ down.
I was very fortunate with my purchase, but I also had a very knowledgable canard builder and A&P go with me to inspect the plane. I hope that same person will be available in addition to David on my next purchase.
