Title: Electronic Ignition choice
Post by: EddieVANN on June 17, 2007, 10:08:08 AM
I have been flying my Long-Ez with an old O-240 for fifteen years, and it's time to update. I intend to fit an O-320, using my Airflow Performance fuel injection.
I am also fed up with mags, and want to fit Electronic Ignition.
Please could you share your experiences of Lightspeed, Rose, Pmag or other?
Many thanks, Eddie Vann, Long Ez F-PGEV

I have used one Light Speed on my LongEz for about 500 hours now and it works as advertised. I really like being able to replace the plugs cheaply!

I've got a Jeff Rose on the right mag. Its got 2600 hours on it, no problems.
I just purchased a P-Mag for the left side, I don't have it running yet, so nothing to report

I run Jeff Rose on the bottom plugs. I use tractor (auto) plugs without adaptors. No problems.

VEZE, O-200, one Jeff Rose, one mag; using Bosch plugs from AutoZone with the EI; anything any better would be one of those "nuanced" thingies.

From my 05/05/06 post:
Bosch Platinum #4226 (single electrode) @ $2.29 each (AutoZone) -- I should have mentioned that AutoZone & Bosch had $1.00 off each coupon deal going at the time that I bought them.

I've got the "Lightspeed" Electronic ignition on my bird. - From Klaus Savier. (sp?). The plane has about 70 hrs on it but seems to run great with this system. The plugs that came in it were Denso W27ESR-U, but after consulting with Klaus, because I have high compression pistons, (9.5 - 1), he recommended that I switch to the Denso W27EMR-C. I bought 8 plugs from him. Don't remember the price. Remember that it was more than automotive, but seemed very reasonable to me at the time.
