Chance of ticket 1 in 10.  Tennessee $150, Arkansas $7, Oklahoma - how much do you have on you?

Sorry, I don't know what each state charges...if you get stopped, I've never had a ticket in about 3000 miles of towing EZs.  Have them stand back and line up their eye on the strake end, you on the other end of the tape - the strake ends converge about 150' behind you.

Just had a line on a slightly used nose lift - out of a Corporate robotic Berkut.  Get in touch - canardfinder@att.net - price not yet set but expect a discount off new.

I've actually bought a light trailer (for 2 motorcycles) to carry canards - I've been to Ohio and back, Las Vegas and back from SoCal with Cozy III, Long EZ and Berkut strapped down on it.

I'm wondering if you cock the nose to one side if the strake might actually be legal width - probably not.  But I've not ever had a ticket in 3000 miles or more with the nose forward and the strakes up.  With Defiant, a flat bed truck carried it on all 3 gear and it was even wider...but well above most cars and trucks, so safer.

If you need to transport in SoCal, I have the trailer and tie downs worked out - wood to old spar bolts, wood to put across canard attach bolt holes...come with it.

The hidden belcranks make for even more precise concerns.  The Berkut method is to add a pair of springs in the rudder cable run - if you reach full rudder you cannot then run out of brakes...you might look at rudder cable area within www.Berkut13.com Redmon's website.

Defiant was actually designed before the Long EZ but the Long EZ is basically the same wing and canard attach as the Defiant.  The Defiant canard is much bigger.

I'd echo the idea of not using West Epoxy for structure.  209 formulation is unknown to me.  But I love West with 205 and 206 hardner for fill and finish, using microballoons.

There is an epoxy Guru in Texas: HUNTER, GARY A. 117 Mesquite St. Lake Jackson, TX 77566 281-433-8478 lucyliu22 at mac.com

I keep a copy of the Dave Ronneberg long nose if you want a pretty nose.  I also maintain a massive builder's library including videotapes.

Hangar Flying / Desser Tires
« on: May 30, 2012, 02:34:29 PM »
According to Dr. Bob, Desser agreed that the first batch of Aeroclassics 500x4.0 were not properly cured which led to problems for Melvill, Dick Rutan and Beagle.  However, the later batches are cured properly.  I'm testing a later tire now - it has heavier sidewall and heavier tread - and we did get lots of miles out of some of the undercured ones.  I've put a new one on with a new Chin Cheng on my Berkut and I'll see how the wear compares.  Mike Melvill told me he'd never go back to tube tires - despite the initial problems with the Aeroclassics.
Dr. Bob gets them cheaper - we pay $40/per, last time I checked.  I've heard Chin Chengs were getting more rare recently - and prices went up too...anyone else see those concerns?

The edge of the NACA should be a wing shape, what is more, some guys also get better cooling with a expander after the floor (roof when looking up at the aircraft) runs out.

I'd move the antenna somewhere else, were it me.  We put them inside the strake with a flat plate of aluminum for the base.  Some did it in the nose.
