Hangar Flying

Pop, I have had my Vari-Eze for 20 years and it is totally standard with an 0-200 Continental. The only change is the Klaus Saviour wheel spats. Comfortable cruise (noise/fuel) at 2500 RPM is 130 kts indicated. When racing at full throttle at sea level (5') my official handicap speed is 178 mph (I reckon 176). I have had some reasonable success including 3rd in the Schneider Trophy and 2nd in the King's Cup air races. Klaus can make it go much faster at quite a reasonable cost with his pistons, electronic ignition, prop etc. but the handicappers will cancel that out. Forget aerobatics, it is not suitable...if thats your bag, get a CAP 10...same race speed and a very pretty plane. My Vari-Eze will never be for sale as long as I can fly. Go get one and talk to Klaus if you want to stay ahead of the crowd. Remember..."Real pilots fly nose draggers".

Got airborne with 90 mins fuel...after 20 mins smelt fuel an landed. Large puddle of fuel formed under aircraft coming from the hellhole inspection panel between the gear. Main tanks were dry and only half the header tank remaining. The 20 year old plastic tubing was so brittle it fell apart in my hands. This system was installed by a licenced engineer and inspected by a licenced engineer every year for the last 19 years. Get your head inside this area from below (can't see it from the rear seat) and make sure you have the correct tubing securely fitted.
