LOS ANGELES — Aerospace maverick Burt Rutan, who designed the historic globe-circling Voyager aircraft and the first private manned rocket to reach space, will retire next year.

I don't believe that he will be able to fully pull himself away and retire.  EAA just announced that it is official though.
